ok so i got another diode from stonetek in the mail today....
i sat all my tools in front of me.....
and i VERY SLOWLY did everything step by step, and stopping and goin over everything inbetween each step as to not forget anything
never the less, i still failed to short out the driver before touching the diode to it, luckily it did not hurt the diode so i am still good. I pretinned the leads and got the diode soldered onto the driver which was already in my host.

it's working!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

lol now i just need to expoxy it down so i don't get any movement and end up breaking the solder points, get it assembled and i'll have a laser again! only took 4 or 5 diodes to get it right!!

....assuming i don't break it while putting everything back together.

and i am only pushing it at 200ma which i think will come to around 120mw, according to dr lava graph...so i am hoping for a very long life.

yea my life to death ratio is on the minus side i'm up to 6 dead 803-t's now :'( one thing for certain is #7 is just around the corner  oh be carefull running them at 175 ma+ is a gamble unless its properly heatsinked  ;)

I know Dave you told me so ::)

wow i must be lucky. i didnt break or blow a diode until probably 15 builds in and then i broke 1 from over power one from a faulty driver and then one from who the hell knows it may have been DOA

For a PHR +175mA is still a gamble.  You just increase your odds with good heart sinking

However, he is building a red laser. 200mA should be very safe

LoL, wear goggles so you don't go blind ;D

My life/death ratio is infinity :D

Awesome!  Good to share your excitement!  See, just do the next one the same, and pretty soon, you'll have it down to a science!  Good work, only, you should post some pictures!  :p

Isn't it the best feeling when you play with your build? :D

i quickly got bored and tore it all apart, and upped it to 300mA instead of 200 :) it's cooler now!

300mA is perfect for those diodes.

Don't set the house on fire ;)

I didn't say that 300mA was the most current it could take. However, 300mA gives a nice balance between burning ability and longevity.

dave
