Pyro --

Hey -- it's Friday and i've had a couple shots of ethanol. WE ALL NEED A LAUGH. But I will ask the old blacksmith about this tool. I see all sorts of old tools in the shop and we do use them.
I play with lasers and some of the oldest tools still working. This weekend, I will help run a forge at a museum weekend. Talk about "old school" !!!!!

Thanks for all your answers.

This sort of looks like a hand vise, where you turn the handle to tighten/loosen the jaws. Is this what it did in the video?

Yes, it did it.

I have added one photo.

I don't know the exact name of it.. but I guess you could call it hand operated vise.. or hand held vice. Try the local hardware store they might have something simular

Here is some thing simular Hand Held Vice - Ebay

Thanks for the link , it's a similar tool ;)

Many thanks.

The old blacksmith looked at the picture and said that he had seen one long ago but couldnt recall its use. It's likely a combination wrench and hand vice. As a wrench, you can't apply twist to the handle or it will let go. Probably a clamp / vice.

ROTFL, the last time i've seen that tool, was more than 20 years ago ..... a plumber had it in the toolbox, and when i asked him for what he was using it, he replied me "i don't know, it was in the toolbox when i took it", LOL.

It look like a comparator, or an "on-the-fly" support for when you have to drill something too small for risk your fingertips with a column drill ..... but, seriously, i can't say anything for sure ..... anyway, it look a little bit unhelpful, as hand vise (or vice, or whatever you call it :p) .....

i just held one of these in my hands some weeks ago, at a fleamarket. i almost bought it, seems quite useful. 10€. i then decided against it and got a regular vice on ebay, mostly to press diodes into modules.

how that thing is called? heck, i dont even know in my own language! :)

I think it's used for loosening nutz -- two at a time :)
