The I "C" Red Battle Royale LPF Contest

I for one am really excited about Lazeerer's new 5W C-mount red diodes and I know a lot of other members are as well. In an effort to encourage some real discussion about practical builds and to also encourage some of the really brilliant members who may feel these diodes are a bit out of reach, I present you the "I "C" Red Battle Royale" Contest.

This contest is open to all LPF members 18 and older with positive rep. I'm hoping that this will bring some of our brilliant Laserists out of the woodwork. Members under 18 may enter as part of a Team.

Each member or Team will have 2 months to design their Dream "Red" Handheld. As there are many members with different skills and abilities, Team play is encouraged. Builders may team up with machinists, driver designers may team up with builders, etc, as the goal is to ultimately build a working handheld.

People are welcome to post questions, answers and hold open discussion on potential build ideas, drivers, hosts etc to this thread. I would like this to become a database for LPF members who might want to undertake such an Epic project in the future. It is understood that this is a "competition" but the final design submission must be in detail to count.

A week before the end of two months a new thread will be opened and the people will vote for what they feel is the best and most viable design by posting their vote. Design submissions will close at the end of September with a one day extension to allow for time zone differences. I'm posting a little early too to give everyone a head start.

The two winning members or teams will then each receive one C-mount red diode and they will have one month to complete their proposed build in the final Epic Battle Royale!
Once completed at the end of November, The 2 Top Contenders will be judged by a panel of Celebrity LPF Judges.

Well. I have already ordered the diode, and lens for my 5W build. I guess if you would like you may put me on a Team with Mrcrouse and Benmwv. Ben is making my driver and Mrcrouse is making my host once i send him my designs with the dimensions and all. When I complete it will entirely depend on when the host can be finished.

I don't want to give too much away, but Mrcrouse has liked my design idea so much he is planning to offer a run of them after I complete and showcase my laser. I am excited. Very. Very. Very excited.

Parts cost list so far*gulp*:
Diode: $425
Lens: $50(after shipping costs)
Driver: TBA - We haven't talked about price, but I will be spending more than 25 dollars
Host: $150-200
Battery: $10
Indium Foil: $30

Total: ~750 Dollars

I know Issac, I've been following your posts

The Teams would be decided by the members not me.

Machinists like Mr. Crouse might be contracted by other members for their builds. So Members and "Teams" should make official announcements of their entry into the contest on this thread. I've been looking forward to your design and Jayrob's as well.

I think this will be an Epic contest!

I just sent Mrcrouse a PM about some details and also told him about this thread. I think though that multiple member "teams" may contact the same machinist simply due to the limited number of machinists.

Yep, that's what I was thinking too. As there may be a conflict of interests "Teams" should be mutually decided upon first, before making an official announcement.

Also, how will the funding for the 2 free 650 C-Mount diodes work? That is 820 dollars

This is incredibly exiting! This will provide great info and ideas for those who do their own builds. There should be many participants since these diodes are so costly. Thanks LB for doing this, its very generous of you to pay for this yourself and thanks to all who will participate, post lots of pics. I can't wait.

Damn LB, Kudos to you. I think you'll get some good designs for this and you are going to put these diodes on the fast track for advancing in the hobby.
