I got the cheaply red laser for my prototype build. Tommorow I construct the prototype and I will post pics. All this driver talk. I will be using a custom secret driver. Now I have two secret components :p the cheaply laser sucks though so the prototype will have little to no brightness. Still cool :)

My Diode came in yesterday and my Lens came in today. The only thing I am unable to figure out is how tell a machinist where the hold for the screw needs to be. It is "slightly off center" according to Lazeerer's build thread, but how do I turn that into a solid number?

I would measure the distance from the center of the diodes die to the center of the c-mount screw hole.
Then your machinenist can simply put that hole at that distance from the heatsink middle. That would be 1-2mm accurate IMO.

BTW great that u already got a diode
One of best builders less that hunts one of the two diodes :D

Maybe I should take part in this :p

Yeah but sadly I'm 16 and would have to join somebodys team while I've got my own complete design idea that + 18 rule kinda sucks for me :(

Maybe I'll post my design and hope that someone who's 18+ likes it and makes a team with this design

Edit: BTW why is it Class VI "loser" in your sign

Couldn't hurt, and it will be known, that it was your design.

You have two months to wow the forum and the builders. This is a challenging project even for seasoned Veterans. The idea of teams is to help with resources and experience too. An experienced driver designer may have resources but no design and might want to work with you, because they liked the idea.

A working handheld is the goal. And it will be the Forum members who will decide which design stands the best chance of succeeding.

Hopefully one of the other members will be suitably impressed to team-up/sponsor your design :)

Edit...

ApexProxy and Flaminpyro have PM'd their entry as a team! :D

They do make a strong team  They're both busy till the end of August though, so it will be a bit before we see a submission. I have a feeling there are quite a few surprises to come still ;)
