If I want to review a wicked laser, can I receive one for free? I see a lot of these reviews on wicked lasers, saying they received them for the purpose of reviewing. did they get them for free?

The people who have been selected to review the WL units were selected by the The CEO of the company. I have no idea what the criteria for that selection is, but it seems to be mostly limited to senior members. You could post your interest in one of the review threads. I know Steve (CEO) keeps an eye on them. He may contact you, you never know.

You would need a bit of experience in testing a Laser...
You would need basic knowledge on the Safe use of Lasers and
have the proper Safety equipment (ie Laser Safety Goggles)
You may also need a Laser Power Meter to do a complete review...

The reviews were done to help evaluate the new FDA compliant
lasers from WL... not just to get a free Laser..

I doubt they would send a laser for review to a person not capable of doing a proper one.
Jerry outlined most of what you would need - IMO it would also take previous experience with several other lasers and a good reputation on this forum. I have heard people calling the cheap, low quality pointers they sell at places like DX and Ledshoppe "excellent quality". They are good for the price, but a whole other level of quality is needed for something as expensive as a WL laser.
With the reputation on the forum part - I say this because WL are not giving away lasers to be nice but to convince people that they have good quality stuff for sale.. so they will probably not waste money on someone who people will not really trust for a review, especially someone who has received the laser because he wanted it and asked for it and is therefore most likely biased.

You generally get asked to do a review, you don't ask to do one. I beleive WL has all the reviewers it needs at the moment.

The purpose of a review is not to give out free lasers, but to get honest opinions and feedback from experienced people in the world of portable lasers. The reason certain people have been selected is that they demonstrate experience with portable lasers and are trusted within the portable laser community to write detailed and honest reviews on these types of laser products.

If you want a laser, I'd suggest you start saving up for the one you like. :)

Some basic equipment is needed to do a review.
Start with a power meter then add such things as a DMM to measure current draw, graphing capability, method to measure beam divergence and whatever else should apply.
A review anymore isn't "So like it pops a balloon and lights a match at 12 inches"

an Evo Pro. I don't know why since there are already a lot of reviews for this unit, but he offered it just some days ago. Which Sonar are you getting?

I agree 110%. Power readings is something people should always have in their review, things like "It cuts tape in 2 seconds" and "It can pop a balloon at 10 metres" doesn't count. Having a power meter, or at least access to one is essential.

And no, you can't go asking them for a free laser to review. Steve will contact you if he wishes for you to do a review, though I believe review units are over for now, at least until everyone else receives their promised lasers to review. People aren't doing this for the free laser, sure, it helps, but most people doing the reviews offered to send the laser back.
