How much wear and tear do you put on your hosts?

I'm almost always carrying a laser on me, and you can tell which ones get carried a lot due to the anodizing accumulating wear at certain points. This is happening to my C6 hosts at the moment, mainly at the point where the grip widens into the front end. The heatsink retaining ring has some dings on it as well. I try to avoid dropping my pointers or handling them roughly, but sometimes things just happen.

How much wear do you let your hosts accumulate, and at what point do you consider replacing a host? Thankfully I'm nowhere close to having to do that yet.

I never put it in my pockets but in a protective case. My lasers are always as new.
Beside wear and tear on the host shouldn't harm the performance.
Most wear comes from using the laserdiode. It has a limited life span when operating at high power.

I do not put any wear and tear on my hosts. My hosts look exactly as they did when I received them, minus the polish depending on if it was a polished host or not.

All mine look brand new. Why would you pocket a $150-300 laser? There is no reason for even a C6 to look worn......I mean they make holsters for those lasers. Doesnt make it any larger but protects it so it can be put in a pocket

Same as the others, all my lasers look brand new(just the engraving had faded). If I ever do carry my lasers around, it's in a box, in my pocket :)

I don't really care about the feebay pens, but I do take care of others, especially custom builds.

My 5 year old Dragon Laser Viper has the finish surface wore off from rubbing against the palm of my hand from all the use. All the others look new

Am I the only one who has a beat up laser? :p

The laser I posted in the beginning I bought only to have a laser that I can beat up.

All my others are in perfect condition, but does no one else have a laser that they just keep for the sole purpose of having a laser that can be roughed up a little?

Nope, your in that club alone :na:

All my lasers are stored in a gun case, locked and without batteries. Only time they are handled are when in use and then they go back in the case. Same with my flashlights, all of them look brand new, minus the one I let my GF use

My S4 looked a little like that... then I polished it.
And the 473-GLP was a little beat up when I got it... polished that one too.
I pocket my fasttech pen and newwish pens. The S4 goes in its holster before it goes in my pocket. I do keep the 635 Riffle in my pocket but that's just so it gets worn so I have an excuse to strip it and give it a brass finish like those pennies way back when in freshmen into to chem.

You're not alone :)

I have a C6 9mm 445nm designated as my "beat up" laser. It has plenty of wear and markings all which give it character and I like it more because of it. I like to have fun with my toys and don't see much point in babying them so they look like they've never been used.

I generally carry mine in my coat pockets. The only problem I've had with that is that dust gets into the lens, which scatters the beam. I need to remember to buy some of those GITD lens covers.

Hey Marco Polo, PM me with your address and I will mail some black colored ones to you for free. Or you can buy the GITD ones from Survival Lasers.
