The only problem for obtain a TV quality is that you have to scan at the same speed ..... for pal is 25 (x 2, odd and even) fps at 576 lines, so you need at least a minimum of 28.800 full lines per second galvos, and it's the minimum ..... and about the modulation of the colors, cause the standard for H line is 762 pixels (also if the underscan effect cut it at 720), you need a modulaton of minimum 22 MHz ..... but better go more high for a bit better quality, too

Also, you need image drivers that separate odd and even fields, and that convert them in levels for the galvos and modulation codes for the lasers, and this is a bit more complex than drive all with an audio card :D

as others have said

you would need a full RGB scanners with a decent set of scanners. dt40pro's or cambridge

also panglin qm2000 with extras to create your own raster files.

heres a link to the very first UKLM, scroll down to jem and you will see a raster video

I have a related question. When laser projectors and tvs come out, does that mean that we will be able to take them apart for mini galvos?

Uhm ..... if/when they become available, they will be probably in a price range so high that your idea to dismantle them for galvos disappear in a flash, i guess :D

..... not mentioning the fact that, when they reach an affordable price, you can also find around the galvos as spare parts, without need to mangle one for collect them :p

QUOTE=MarioMaster I've done basic raster scanning with my 20kpps galvos. The image is very low resolution and flickery. Faster galvos would enable you to do more complex images or less flicker, but not both.

Hi MarioMaster...Where did you get that cool raster image from? Do you have more? I only have one "Yin Yang" in ILDA format :(

I think you'd be hard pressed to find a set of galvos in a laser TV/monitor. They'll be using MEMS devices similar to DLPs.

Thanks. Although it doesn't contain a step-by-step tutorial, I think anyone who wishes to scan pictures has the knowledge and determination to build it anyway, maybe except the programming part :)

@HMINL9: Dude, are you sure it wasn't the other way around? I'm reading the guy's blog, and on 24th-Apr-2006 he wrote some else did the hard-disk-laser-projector before he did it :D

Now I'm looking for the one who had the idea/made the device first... ;)

I really have no idea ..... i tried to make my galvos "homemade style" both using laptop HD head positioners, and also with the motors of some old cd readers (the disk motor is a 3-phase brushless, usually), and also modifying the inside of some old little pc fan, but i do those experiments time by time, when a crazy idea hit my brain, and never keep records nor check before if some other peoples had the same idea.

I don't do them for say "hey, i'm the first" , i do them just for see if that works and for my fun, LOL
