When I has Lasik (UVC?), I could see flashes of a blackish violet. But that was probably fluorescence. (as was the X-ray case above)

And it didn't look red. It looked almost *gray-green*, and more visible in my peripheral vision than in the center. So I think I actually did see 980@65mW. I was expecting a dull red but that's not what it was at all - as if the cones weren't doing it, but the rods were.

That would make sense, there are fewer rods in the center of your vision, your
"focus," instead most of them are placed at you peripherals, so its would make
sense to see it better there AND see it as a gray-green rather than deep red.

Very cool findings

That sounds like a tiny amount of emission at a completely different frequency, like the bit of yellow that comes out of blu-rays.

I know I can see at least 808nm, and at least part of the emissions from certain IR LED's mounted on nightvision cameras, in the dark. I don't know what the common frequencies are for such cameras.

I can't see the IR from remotes.

As for UV, I'm not sure about that, as I don't have a good pure source of it. I can't really tell if I'm actually seeing the 365nm from blacklight CFL's.

I can see to 980, appears sort of deep red with a greenish halo easily to about 915 a weird very dim pinkish-purple red, but then again the powers required to "see" these colors are way to high for viewing any length of time. It's not recommended, like seeing an 5X watt halogen bulb filament at the same range, decidedly bad for your eyes!

Looking at an intense blacklight I can see a glow coming from within my eye like the x-ray one, but a very deep violet, not a deep blue.

I can see the IR from a 20 mw green laser when looking through a red camera filter.

I think remote IR LEDs vary because I have always been fascinated with the fringes of the visual spectrum.. so I look at remote LEDs all the time. I know it sounds weird haha. But at hotels, friends houses, etc... Most of them are invisible, but some of them have a faint red glow. This leads me to believe that I (and others) am not seeing infrared, but just witnessing one end of relatively broad spectrum some of these produce.

That is your cornea/lens fluorescing. This effect resembles glare, and I find that it goes away when I put my glasses on, which block most of 365nm.
