Default Host that uses 9V battery? ='(

Hey guys. I'm really close to purchasing the MXDL Host & Heatsink Combo! by JayRob, however, I've grown displeased with the 10440 batteries that I'd be required to use if I were to go that route. Instead, I'd like to use a 9V host & heatsink for a PHR blu-ray build I'm making. Any ideas, or know anyone that sells 9v battery hosts & heat sinks? Thanks all!

pretty sure you wont find one in a flash lite host. due to current requirements. you can build your own out of a radio shack project box.

I have this one fs for $65 here http://laserpointerforums.com/f39/fs...ray-42760.html post #13. It uses an LM317T set with a 12.5 ohm resistor to give an output of 100ma.

Since you had better be using the Flexdrive v4 for this build (since its blu ray), you can get Jayrob's 3405 MXDL kit which takes 3 AAA batteries If I remember correctly. (I'm in the market too) lol

PHR diodes as well as other blu ray diodes can be driven by an LM317 with an input voltage greater than or equal to about 8.25v-8.5v. Search DDL driver.

If you go the project box and DDL driver, and 9v route it will end up looking something like this...(smallest project box I could find that would fit a 9v)
allelectronics.com for the box, and circuit parts.

Thank you, you are correct, and I am aware of such a fact. Since he was looking at a flashlight host, I thought I would make sure he was using the flexdrive since flashlights rarely have batteries that sum up to 9V.

I suppose from here, he ought to decide if he wants to go portable, or go labby.

It's no problem! Sometimes I can be a little vague in posts.. my fault of course!

After all, you only contributed helpful information to the thread! Right?

@meatball and at ramsey. a lot of LED hosts are coming with a cartridge type set up that takes 3 AAA batts. there are AAA that put out 3.6vdc. but when i see some body ask for a 9v batt i automatically assume the rectangle ones.

9v batteries really do not hold enough current capacity to be worthwhile using in lasers >20mW or so

it would be a better idea to use lithiums or something that would have a higher capacity while still being relatively small

Very good point, thanks. I actually have two led hosts with that 3xAAA cartridge. I do have some AA Li iron phosphate cells (3.2v), but don't have any in the AAA size yet. They can be found here UltraFire 10440 AAA Li-Ion 3.6V Rechargeable Battery 500 mAh FLAT TOP CR10440 Lithium Ion
I could build a DDL small enough to fit in the back of an axiz module. Just like in the pics below. I'll have to get three of those AAA's and try it out, could be a nice little build.

I get quite long run times, maybe 2-3hrs at least with Duracell 9v running phr's @ 90-110ma using the DDL. I believe their capacity is about 550mah with Duracell plus. There are also Li poly rechargeable 9v's with a capacity of 500mah here iPower 9V Rechargeable Lithium Polymer Battery 500mAh

Thats not good... what 9v are you using, also, are you using an LM317 to regulate the current? If so what value resistance are you using to determine the output?
