I'm getting tired of buying button cell batteries for my cats laser. I was wondering if anyone knows of any "high quality" <5mW lasers???

I was looking at ThinkGeek :: Red Laser Pointer and it is my top choice atm.

I wouldn't say that one is high quality at all... TG is cool and all but typically they mark up cheap stuff and throw in better marketing to pass it off as better quality stuff.

Edit: I was wrong, they didn't have any low powered ones, I seem to (mis)remember they did though... Oh well. Site was down when I posted so I couldn't check.

I don't think LaserGlow actually do lower powered reds but they definitely do greens.

Depending on how much you wish to spend I'd go with them aswell

Just buy a 1mW from DX. They aren't bad quality, and runs on AAAs

The lasers from DX are overspec and the FP want a <5mW laser.

Best is to buy a red Newwish AAA laserpen and block a part of the beam with ducktape to reduce output :D

Here's what I'd suggest in order to get a good quality laser that works well and you can be proud of it :D

Get a Leadlight host from one of our common laser supplies suppliers (i.e cajunlasers.com). Those look nice. and can be left as fixed focused or focus-able.

Then get a 5mW 650nm laser module that will probably be on spec. Try one from Aixiz or get a 635nm (brighter than 650nm mW to mW) line module on eBay and replace the lens. Get one that runs <3V so you can use AAA's.

That way you have a laser that ...
-you build yourself
-you feel proud of
-works for sure
-is quality
-you know what went into it.

Best of luck!

O-like's site is down for some reason right now but I ordered two of their <5mW 635's and one spec'd at 5mW and the other was 3 mW. They were about $7 and run on AAA's or AA's.
