Who cares? No one should tell you what to own or not to own. I don't know if it is legal or not to own a 5 watt argon in the USA nor do I give a shit. I will own one anyway.

This is the kind of attitude that will cause big trouble for laser hobbyists like yourself. The OP asks about the law and you say "who cares about the law"? Well, obviously he does and I'm glad that the OP has respect for the laws here in Canada.

Your attitude is extremely immature and irresponsible, and people like you are bad for the laser hobby in general because you don't respect the laws which are in place to protect the public from irresponsible fools. If you lived on an asteroid by yourself you should be able to own whatever you want, yes, but you live in a society, surrounded by other people, and there have to be some rules on what you can and can't do, otherwise there is no safety or security for anybody.

They are allowed in Canada. (I am in Toronto)

Just be careful in the public. NEVER point it at people/planes/vehicles.
^^Good advice

Just remember OP if you want it to stay legal it is your (and other canadian laserists) duty to use the lasers in a responsable manner.

Exactly. The irresponsible US hobbyists already ruined it for themselves, and now look what's happened. :(
