Ok, so lately I've been interested in lasers. I have a True Green 5mW coming in from DX, and I decided to take apart an old broken dvd-drive. I dont know if it even burns DVD's, but I took it apart, and this is what I found.

I found 2 diodes that were in the drive, I'm guessing one of them is IR.
The left module is in a heatsink I think. when I pulled it out of the sled, it looked like this... The right module had the code 19TBF on it.

So my question is, what diode is which, and can either of them be used for a burning laser? The drive is a Pioneer DVD-117VA.

Thanks in advance!

search if this driver can burn DVD-RW disks, if it does, give it a chance ;)

I'd be willing to bet that the open can is the IR and the closed can is the red. All closed-can look alike, just different size, so if you can't see parts of the can of the diode in the sink, it's probably open-can.
