Hi everyone!

Just want to say i like the forums as there is many good reads in here and that i have had an interest in lasers for a long time. I have had a few lasers in my time and my biggest leap procured a WL arctic.

Well after months of lurking here i decided to register.

So i have posted and been asking for some questions and no reply. So i research to find the answers and i have found what i have been looking for but there is so much in here it can take a long time but i have kept reading through. Thank you to many here btw as i would not have been able to get to where i am.

Thing that is bothering me is that i have posted 3-4 times and not one response.

So have i done something wrong or broken some sort of rule?

I hoped by now that at least i would of been helped on my journey but i have pushed on, on my own. (is it due to the flak that has become associated with the increasing power of lasers)?
Is it becoming an exclusive club?
I feel i have come a long way from the knowlege that has been put up here but at the same time i feel like i am a bad smell.

I am not after any awwz or oooz. I just thought that i would of recieved at least a hi or something.

Sorry for the rantish type post but i do feel like i am like i am in a awkward room full of strangers. :can:

I think it would more accurately be a room of awkward strangers. :D
Lots here are both awkward and stranger (than most !)

I can't say that I've seen your other posts.
But "HI !" anyways.

So now you can't say that you didn't get a friendly greeting yet. :p

You are doing things the right way. You are reading lots and learning the hard and best way. Soon you too will be spending more than you think you will...
And then you too will be a regular member here.

Looking at your history you have posted in other people's threads. I don't see anything in any of your previous posts that illicits a specific response. If you want a "Welcome to the forum" message you should post in the New Members section. You're sure to find a greeting message there.

Welcome to the forum. I suspect that avatar of yours will get banned at some point unless you change it.

The best way to get a positive response around here is to post pictures of something you've built yourself. The best way to get a negative response is to complain.

What's wrong with the avatar ?

It says to me that there is an appreciation of dogs and self-assured women. (Only confident women would pose artistically with a smile knowing a dog is superceding them.)
I'm not sure if it would be in that order but a naked woman in front of a dog's private parts would DEFINITELY get banned.
I think it hints at artistic, makes a point, and is humorous as well.
I fail to see a problem in the slightest.

Well, I don't ban avatars, but I see the following three things:

1. jim didn't take the picture himself.
2. there is nudity or some form of impropriety involved.
3. The content has no relation what-so-ever to lasers.

These three points taken together will probably lead to removal of the avatar. Then again, I don't personally care. I don't enforce any rules around here. I was just telling jim for his information.

Howdy and Welcome to the Forum
Have fun and be Safe ;)

My avatar has nothing to do with lasers either, it dose however have something to do with me :D

Personally I see nothing wrong with your avatar

If people do not respond to a question you pose do not take offense as maybe they didn't see it or don't have an answer

How would you know that someone didn't take the picture or even have rights to use a picture ?
Perhaps he took a picture of his dog and superimposed or photo-shopped it over another picture.
There is no way to say that the person in the background is or isn't wearing clothing. They could be wearing a tube top, a bathing suit, or any strapless top with up to half length shorts that due to the angles of the legs would fall up and out of view. To claim anything about the state of the person's attire would be ludicrous.
And there is no restriction on having lasers in the avatar. There are many without.

So there is nothing wrong with it.

And the look on the dog makes me laugh. :)

I doubt any one of those three points would be significant by itself, but combined I think it probably crosses the line.

I'll put it this way: I wouldn't want to be viewing these forums in a public place and have someone look over my shoulder and see that on my screen.

Hi folks. 1st thing i will do after this post will be to change my avatar to something more laser like just to save on any ambiguity.

:thanks: for the hi.

Well i have an arctic as previously mentioned and have been working on getting it to its true potential.
I wish to thank all for the info around here as i could not have got to where i am without it.

I have accuired most of my tools and components to work on my laser.
Been posting here: http://laserpointerforums.com/f42/m...mw-smartswitch-features-no-g1-lens-61785.html

Pics too to show my progress and my question on reading current is there too.

Just wondering if i can use mt dmm to read the current going to the diode. It can read upto 10 amps at 10mA resolution. Should i just wait till i have made my test load and set the pots using it or could i set the pots while monitoring the current going to the diode. :can:

Anyhoo, thanks againg folks :)

Hehe, or a dog with a smaller head lol. It has been changed though. It was a pic i picked up a few years back on the net. The dogs face is cool and if it turns out its ok to use i will put him back up:D

So i have a spare A140 diode, i bought 2 just incase i made a muckup along the way. I will use it for my first own build if all goes well with my arctic adventure. ;)

Thanks Flaminpyro, will hold off on the pots till i have made my test load.

Hmm the dog is still there. brb. fixed :)

Something that may be of use for arctic host owners out there. When i was trying to stuff it back together i was thinking to myself how this was assembled in the first place so i was looking at the host and seen that it has 4 main parts to it. The end cap, battery compartment, LED battery indicator bit and external heat sink part leading up to the aperture.
Looking further at the LED indicator part i can see what looks like glue holding it in place and when i gave a twist to the external heatsink part of the host i could feel a very small amount of play.

Some pics

Glue type blobs seen under here.

Small amount of play seen here.

Well anyway if anyone has an old arctic host they are not using then it may be worth looking into. I would but i am not wanting to go all chuck norris on mine as the internals have at least 1 wire connected to the host in there.

Hi fellow folks. Just a wee update. So i made my barebones test load, went investigating with my new tool and no suprises, the driver output was 760mA when on full :tsk: Well time to sort that out :toilet: and here are my results for the new load driving the diode.

No explination needed here!

2012-01-27180131.jpg

Small tweeking step 1.

2012-01-27180138.jpg

More baby steps, tweek 2.

2012-01-27180146.jpg

The golden number for me

So its all good. Only thing i need now is a LPM. Will see to that at some point but if i go by another thread that is using a A140 diode i should have an output close to that.

2012-01-27200823.jpg

My barebones test load. Damn thats a big boy resistor! Diodes are N5404's

2012-01-27201324.jpg

Doing it proper. :knight:

Showing the beam in a fully lit room.

And again.

2012-01-27200927.jpg

You cant hear it or physicaly feel it but it does nasties. Wear your shades peoples or this can be the back of your eye. All that it took for this to happen was a distraction from a phone call.

2012-01-27172847.jpg

So the host is dismantable. Wooot, thank fook as its like a mosh pit inside this thing when trying to put it back together.

Thanks to all for the info on this site to help me on this mad journey. I aint going back inside this abyss of a laser ever again.... Unless it breaks haha. :D
