EMS still goes through the post office. DHL will likely cost out the wazoo.

For DHL, O-Like states $16.59 Canadian, $15.00 U.S.
... then maybe they ADD the weight cost? (although the website simply states one flat charge).

It would be worth it, I think, to get a 200mw Gatlin here.
Especially if this Canadian postal stuff would otherwise interfere.

In my email I stated WHY I wanted to do this.

Hopefully that all wouldn't be lost in translation... ordering things from China, this is new to me.

Wait. Your in texas.. Why are you worried about a canadian post office shutdown? It won't affect you. Stuff from china to the US doesn't go through canada first. heh.

Mail going to the USA does not go to Canada first..
Many members have posted the shipping times it takes from
China to the USA and Canada... And the USA times were mostly
shorter...
The mail is not like the Internet that can snake through multiple
non direct routes before it gets there...

All the shipments i've gotten from china have funnily enough arrived in new york first. But they never went north to canada.

Our conservative government is legislating CP back to work. First time I've ever been happy to have a conservative government. House of Commons isn't sitting Friday, so our timeline is looking like this legislation won't get addressed until Monday. So Canadians should probably be thinking Wednesday of next week as a possible mail resumption timeline, unless CP and the union figure it out on their own before then.

Seems they have reached a tentative agreement and are set to return
to work on Friday...

Guess they are feeling the pinch of 1.30+ per liter of fuel and the
high cost of living here.

2 packs of cigarettes cost about 18$ and is just getting out of hand
when you want to buy anything..

With the $$ so high many are crossing the boarder into the US for
gas...

I couldn't agree more. I live in the USA and I get paid just a little bit over minimum wage. I have no health benefits, no pension, and next to no savings. If I take vacation I don;t get paid. If I get sick and cannot work I don't get paid. I haven't had a pay raise in years. If I have to go to the doctor or need prescriptions I pay out of pocket. If I can;t afford the doctor or medical treatment I accept that I cannot afford it and I live without it. And guess what. I am happy with that. I think those working conditions are quite reasonable. I am happy, humble, and I strive to be the best at my job, meager as it may be. What I get is what I work for, nothing more.

What gives me the right to think I deserve $10.00 - $20.00/hour, full benefits, paid vacation, full pension, raises, and all the other crap these union bums demand. It really sickens me when I see these unskilled spoiled brats making all this big money with all these big benefits and then they cry and whine for more. You should get what the company decides to pay you. If you don;t like it then stop whining and go start your own corporation.

Default Re: Heads up re: CanadaPost - full lockout / shutdown of operations tomorrow.

Translated by Google from the Journal de Montreal this morning...
Pardon the French grammar...

OTTAWA - The federal government filed Monday in the Commons, a special bill to end the conflict by forcing Canada Post return to work of unionized employees.

This draconian measure deemed by the opposition in Ottawa comes as labor and management agreed to return to the negotiating table.

Both sides have, however, little time to reach an agreement last chance before the adoption of the bill.
Adopted before Thursday?

Indeed, the Federal Minister of Labour, Lisa Raitt, who leads the record, said that the bill would be debated Tuesday and then be adopted by parliament before the adjournment of the House of Commons, normally scheduled Thursday .

If no agreement occurs before then, the government will give the task to an arbitrator to choose between the final proposal of the union or that of the employer to impose.

The minister said she had spoken earlier in the day, during a conference call with the President's National Union of Postal Workers, Denis Lemelin, president and CEO of Canada Post, Deepak Chopra, for advise them of the situation.

Ms. Raitt has described this exchange of "optimistic", since it was the first time in two weeks the government managed to meet together with the presidents of both parties.

The minister justified his government's decision to use this special law by the fact that the labor dispute affects the economy, including small businesses and charities.
The NDP opposes

Opposition parties intend to oppose the adoption of the bill.

NDP MP Yvon Godin said he was aware that, faced with a majority government, the opposition will be difficult to halt the adoption of the bill.

His party still intends to discuss broadly the Commons, which could extend the parliamentary session.

"We want to show that the Harper government is trying to interfere in the negotiations, he argued.

It opens the door to future employers just do not negotiate collective agreements, because the government will come to their rescue.

The interim leader of the Liberal Party, Bob Rae, for his part would have hoped that the government prioritizes the return to the negotiating table rather than resort to adopting a special law.

Rae says the government should play a "more active" in this case.

After a rotating strike began earlier this month, Canada Post employees were subsequently locked out by their employer, a week ago.

The government then indicated its intention to introduce a special bill.
A "strategy" of Canada Post

The Canadian Union of Postal Workers (CUPW) estimates that the proposed special law "penalizes the postal workers and Canada Post reward for putting workers locked out and stopped mail delivery at the national level."

According to the CUPW, the bill imposes wage increases lower than those offered by Canada Post in its last offer, which was 1.9% in 2011, 2012 and 2013, and 2% in 2014.

The Conservative bill would reduce the increases to 1.75% in 2011, 1.5% in 2012, 2% in 2013 and 2% in 2014, the union said in a statement.

"This bill will remove pockets of $ 875.50 a worker full-time positions during the four years of the agreement, said CUPW, in a statement.
In all, this is a theft of $ 35 million committed against the workers of the positions and their families."

That is $875.50 over 4 years that they are whining about....
That is $218.88 per year...

They loose $220.00 every 11 hours they are not at work...
They have already been out off work for 5 days = 40hrs...
They have another 4 hours before they will loose that same
amount by not being on the Job... whether they get their
demands or not...

Perhaps it should be a Job requisite that Canada Post workers
can do some simple math...

Wake up a smell the coffee.............

These are unions we're talking about. I'm sure there's something in the contracts that allow them to get paid even if they don't show up.

Any updates on the strike? Been google searching and haven't found anything about a end date or status update. Just alot of articles saying about how nobody cares (except small businesses) that there on strike -.-
