Default Going on holiday to Poland... what are the laws on lasers?

So I'm going on holiday very soon, yay! I would like to know if anyone here is from Poland and if they know what the laws are on lasers over there? I'd like to take my 1.2W blue with me as long as there's no risk of it getting confiscated just for having it.

On another note, has anyone ever had any problems taking one in their carry on luggage at the airport (from the UK or from Poland)? I was thinking that taking the batteries out and just keeping them in the checked in luggage should make it ok... and I don't see any specific rules about lasers being banned on flights, but I could be wrong. Any experience here with airport security in those countries?

If your battries are lithium they will most likley be confascated as thoes are no allowed on airplanes as a stand alone battery if they are inside of a device that is allowed.
I know of a company I used to work for that just got a $20,000. fine from the FAA for trying to ship 20 coin cells in one box the limit is 3.
they never even made it on a plane they were picked out in a random package check

As far as Portland goes they have local laws about diplaying lasers in public so unless you are going to be camping out in the woods I would just leave the laser at home.

If you want to play with a laser when you get here come see me I'm about 120miles south and have way to many lasers so there are lots here to pick from if you want to play and I'm out in the country so no problems as to where you can point it

@Flaminpyro I'm going to Poland, the country, not Portland.

@chipdouglas I'm visiting friends. Have fun at the festival!

P.S. I've read some of the threads about planes... seems like it should be ok as long as you don't do anything dumb. For now I just need to find out what the local laws on lasers in Poland are... off to Google again!

Oblong metallic device with electronics inside, in hand carry... you could try your luck, but why would you want to? Take the lasers apart, put into separate pieces, and leave them in your checked luggage. Chances of confiscation or any other issues will be a lot lower.

As far as Poland is concerned, I doubt there are too many specific laws, but if a cop there sees you using a powerful laser - He'll thank you for the new toy he just got for his kids, or possibly just give you the option to bribe him. Again it depends on your luck. I wouldn't test it too much.

Bottom line, if you ever thought cops in the US can be jerks... the ones in poland make them seem positively cuddly. They take this approach a lot faster: and they are perfectly ok with making up the "laws" on the spot.

Keep the lasers inside, and move on quickly if you're gonna need to use them outside.

Good luck, and enjoy your trip.

Just an update. Been here two weeks, and it's been great so far.

Had absolutely no trouble at the airport. Had it in my hand luggage (I kept the batteries separately, in my girlfriend's camera case which was in her own hand luggage), my suitcase went right through the xray machine and the conveyor belt; no one even looked at the laser. Looks just like a flashlight to be fair to them. Going back in a week and a half through Germany.

Nice! Good luck, I'm glad everything went well. I guess I'm just too paranoid.

Keep us updated about going through europe with a laser.
