In pursuit of my 1mw ir laser I found the following laser diode...
Thorlabs - L980P010 980 nm, 10 mW, Ø5.6 mm, A Pin Code, Laser Diode
The L980P010 from thorlabs.

It's 10mw and 980nm making it almost perfect except for the fact that it's 10x more powerful than I want it to be!

So I want to buy this diode and the required parts to not only turn it into a functioning laser but to bring its output power down to 1mw.
Im new to assembling lasers so could someone point me to a short list of what I'll need to get this thing working?
So far I think I'll have to look at getting...
Safety glasses
A focusable lens
A low power diode driver
And The housing

From there I was going to set the laser up, get it on a laser power meter and adjust the input current until it outputted the power I want or use some sort of filter; however I'm very new to this so if I'm missing something please do shout.

Any advice for what to buy and do from here much appreciated.

Also for what its worth I want to modulate this laser at about 35khertz so it can communicate data to an ir receiver, I don't know if this requirement complicates the power supply at all?
