Made my intro here:
http://laserpointerforums.com/f37/hello-now-s-lasers-i-guess-101510.html
.. but thought a new thread was a more appropriate follow up than to continue there as I'm now getting a project started.

Building a cross line generator
First blood drawn from Survival Laser:
190-540nm safety goggles
Two AW PR123 batteries w/ charger
G-2 lens (I wanted the red anodized focus ring)
S4X tail cap switch
lasrstuff.gif

I also have a 12mm module housing an Osram PL520B coming from DTR, and a glass 110* K-9 cross lens from Odic Force. So far the cross lens proved the most evasive, would rather have >120*.

Good luck ---good lasers and good parts are expensive but much lower today than at any time in the past.

10 years ago a 300mW hand held green laser was $1999. See: About us - Wicked Lasers

Yes, not kidding there either Encap. And there was no green laser diodes either.

Good luck on your first build. Sounds like you have done everything the right way for a first time. If you get addicted to building, you will need to buy some test equipment and building fixtures along with many different parts. You will never know what you might need. :D

And I'm grateful both are no longer the case!

Roger that. I was struggling with a pic I was trying to attach in the first post but I believe I have it sorted out now. When I first joined I could attach pics right off my phone but now it appears I need to host any pics I wish to display.

Yeah well technically it's the second time as I bought that $250 1mW unit off Amazon (returned), and getting it right wouldn't have happened without folks help here:beer:. Next on the list is a soldering iron. I'm sure it's overkill but I'm steering towards an Ersa I-Con Pico-

I use my projects to justify my tool purchases:yh:

Make sure you get all the tips for that solder station as different sizes will be necessary. I have two temperature controlled solder stations, but one is a rework station and also has hot air to flow solder. That is temperature controlled as well.

Thanks man. so just to be clear, DON'T shine it at the sky visitors upon completion? :na:

Sounds like you have an awesome set up. I thought about a rework station but I really want that Ersa I-Con Pico.
I'll have to be a bit choosy about tips as they make a couple dozen for this model and they start at $12 each, would get spendy in a hurry if I tried to get em all in one whack.

In fact I'd appreciate any advice about a good starter set of maybe 4 or 5, there are pencil points, bent tip, chisel points, concave, wick tip etc..,
here's what's available-
Soldering Tip Series 102

Hey man I dug this out of mothballs for you to check out on account of your avatar. When my uncle Chris was still with us he cut this stainless steel license plate with a laser at his place of employment-

You don't scare me!:eg::na:

My Clausing is very nearly finished and ready to start making chips Rich, I'm tempted to incorporate copper into this build as an homage to you .

I would get at least three soldering tips. The smallest a mid size and something next to the largest. That would at least cover most of your soldering needs. I have 7 tips for the iron on my rework station and use all of them depending on circumstances.

Great to see you posting more, Len. I know since the hurricane it has been spotty, and that's totally understandable. I hope you are doing well and are in good health. ;)
