Hi Everyone

Today, my final piece arrived, DrLava's flexdrive preset to 110 ma.  I borrowed a soldering iron from a friend, and when I took the flexdrive out of the packaging, and looked at the size of solder I had, I knew it wasn't going to work.  The solder was a bigger diameter than the holes I was supposed to solder the diode to!  I went to radio shack and bought some .015" diameter solder, and was able to get it all put together.  Now, I have a couple of questions.

1)  What is the best way to fix the focal length of the Aixiz module?  I suppose I don't really need to, but I don't want it to be loose and end up coming off and becoming lost.

2)  I've read a few posts mentioning a new addict's (oops i mean builder's) eyes getting tired from their blu-ray.  Can someone please explain that further?  I have only had my laser completed for about 30 min, and have purposely only shone it at matte non-reflective surfaces.  The dot is so bright it still hurts my eyes.  Is this truly "hurting" my eyes, or just making them "tired"?

Thanks for your help!

Ian ***disclaimer - I've read some very negative things about a previous member named Ian...I am NOT said person.

**edit

I forgot to mention what all I used...Dorcy Jr host, 803 blu-ray diode (I didn't have the guts to take it out of the sled by myself) Dark Horse heatsink, Aixiz...housing...DrLava's flexdrive preset to 110ma.

1) I wouldn't fix it, you may need it at some point, but you can use regular superglue on the edge of the threads (don't use too much).

2) Both, 405nm is really hard to see, thus straining your eyes in the focusing of that kind of light. If the laser has enough power then you'll too be getting your eyes damaged, be careful, seriously, no matter how dim it looks.

1) Go to a plumbing supply store and purchase a roll of Teflon Thread Tape... Put that on the
threads of your Lens holder to snug it up... Don't forget the Spring under the Lens holder.

2) At 110mA your Blu-Ray LD is putting out at least 85-100mW.... that is way too strong to be
playing with.... without proper Laser Safety Googles...

3) We know you're not Ian... because you don't post 30 posts per day... and you are not from
   Australia... ;D

Thank you for your input. I'll get some glasses, and probably will turn the power down as well. Vision is pretty important!

I wouldn't put to much trust on UV blocking glasses for a direct hit. No matter how careful you are accidents happen. Make no mistake, your eyes are worth way more than the $45 you would pay for real protective lenses.
