I just ran across this article on Ars Technia.

Laser strikes against airplanes now an “epidemic,” says FBI | Ars Technica --- I was waiting for them to fire off a quick 20mm cannon burst and take that dickhead out. Problem solved.

Instead, heavy pressure will soon be on to curtail what we're doing. They're probably making a mountain out of a mole hill but any excuse to grab more power.

However, one cannot ignore the fact that high power lasers are making it into the hands of people too immature to act in a responsible manner.

I wonder how many LPF members sell indiscriminately in search of the quick buck?

Here is a direct link for those that also see the url redirection warning page.

I honestly do think that imposing such fines and jail time is okay because people need to have greater respect for the dangers of lasers. I would assume that cockpits have some shielding against sunlight, but probably not anywhere near enough filtering to protect the pilots from intense laser light.

The people committing the felonies are responsible for their own actions, the sellers are not the ones shining lights at aircraft.
