Because i don't want google storing this see this link as an example.

i don't think our hobby needs this being posted online. We all know what a laser can do. we don't need to post deviant ideas that google can direct back to LPF.

edit, removed bad link.

Remember to click on the "report post" icon.

Even with four mods we cannot see everything ;)

Thanks Daguin!, I didn't even realize there was a "report post" button until now. Excellent!

PM's are nice.

However, the "report post" button (

) sends an actual email, with a link, to all of the mods at once ;)

We may not always agree, but that way we will always see it

Peace,
dave

Well, if you really mean that, shouldn't we excluded the entire forum from being indexed by search engines at all? A robots.txt directive would most likely all that it takes.

As i understand the removed content was some speculation about burning through threads in some type of arcade game using a laser. This may or may not be illegal, but you want to set the standard at 'potentially illegal in some odd jurisdiction', i would only conclude that the majority of this from is in violation.

Even if you would stick to US-centric legislation, i've seen plenty of topics here go unhinderend, including ones with ideas on how to circumvent US import bans.

I think LPF should consider the sliding scale here: Do we want to outrule only information that in itself is a crime to publish, or should we remove any and all content that could result in a crime by some remote mechanism?

I am pretty sure we are here as laser hobbiests. As such we have a pretty biased view around here especially when it comes to self preservation. Posting ideas of how to misuse lasers is a very bad idea. This isn't a forum based on respect for all laws so much as the respect of proper use of lasers.

I don't doubt that peoples hearts are in the right place here, but its still a diffcult decision:

- do we allow sensible, safe ideas that are illegal?
- do we ban unsafe, nonsensical ideas that may be legal?

Or is it about doing the right thing, and do we ban or allow whatever the moderators of this forum judge to be allowable for vague reasons? I'm sure the moderators will be able to do a fine job at telling the difference between bad and good ideas in most cases, but shouldn't there be some set of defined rules that specifies what we can, and cannot, discuss here?

There are rules of the forum. I read them once upon a time. We do not ban unsafe non-sensical LEGAL ideas. Using a 1 watt laser in public without a variance to fraud a business is certainly both nonsensical and illegal.

its about doing what it takes to preserve our hobby. It's ok to make an arguement, if you have a valid point.
as to your "defined" rules. why do we preach safety? it protects the hobby. same thing for not giving advice on how to defraud vending machines. If you don't care about LPF thats fine, say what you want. i'll just use the "report" button.

there is nothing illegal about owning our lasers ben. also this is a global forum with different laser rules in each country. but theft is theft in any country.

I see now.... the 'burning support strings on arcade games thread' or something like that was deleted. Good call, even I (a devious master of causing trouble) argued against that idea back when it was open

I suppose thats a good point - so we should delete any topics that consider using lasers to commit crimes.

I would then propose to also remove all threads regarding using lasers as (self defence) weapons. Doing so would probably be illegal, and certainly unsafe...
