Does this seem like a good laser to you? I would really appreciate your input

Hello,

I'm new to the forum and I'm looking to purchase my very first laser pointer. My budget is exactly $50.

I followed the recommended safe sites to purchase from and it seems like this is my best option within my budget- Optotronics Product Details

Do you think that's a good laser? I just want something that's built to last and has a very visible beam in the dark from all viewing angles.

For that purpose do I really need to spend this much? Would a cheap laser off eBay such as the 303 be suffice? Or would the one I linked be a lot better since it's 10mW instead of the 5mW of the 303?

Thank you to everyone who took the time to read my post and is willing to help me out. I truly would appreciate your input. :yh:

The optotronics laser will certainly be better quality and will be at the advertised power, but the 303/301 will likely be way more powerful. Those 303/1s are all advertised as 5mW, but they're typically anywhere from 30-100mW. I haven't had any issues with my 532s yet, can't say the same for the 405s. Good little lasers for the price.

Of course, that's enough power to cause eye damage so you'd need to exercise caution when using it.

Thank you very much for the help, I sincerely appreciate it. I didn't know the 303 was more powerful so I think I'll go with that one, even though it might not last as long or be as reliable as the optoronics laser I'm okay with that since it's pretty cheap and I'd only be out like $10-12 if I have a bad experience with it.

When I look on eBay I see a variety of names directly on the 303's being sold such as "YL-Laser-303", "Assassin", "Laser 303", ect. I'm not sure if that matters or not.

Once again, thank you for the help. :yh:

It doesn't seem like you want me to stay at all, but sure. I'll also post an update with pictures when I purchase the laser and spend some time with it to give my impressions.

LOL... Very good, glad you got your answer. So are you just going to ask and run, or stay in the forum?

Couldn't blame him if he didn't want to stay. I wouldn't want to stay if I were immediately called a troll for asking a question.

Maybe OP is, maybe not, but we can't keep making these accusations for these new users, then sit wondering why no one is staying around.

OP - We've had some trolls asking silly questions to waste peoples time. Alaskan thinks that might be the case for you.

I've never posted on this site in my life, just to prove that an admin is more then welcome to track my ip address to back that up. My question was sincere and legitimate, I was just looking for help. So thank you for giving me the benefit of the doubt and taking the time out of your day to help me. I don't take it for granted, it really means a lot to me.

Yes sir, doesn't matter, IP, I don't care... Just do us a favor and join the community, we have had a huge influx of newbies who keep posting a myriad of questions like this over and over again and they disappear quickly, only to have another one pop up and disappear. Say what you want, but better to stay in the forum and join the community if you have a sincere interest in the hobby. If you don't have a good one, glad you got what you were after.

Don't worry too much about Alaskan, Shampoo. He has his reasons(good ones) as to why he is wary of new members. :yh:

Too many come, eager to be fed and then poof, gone. The 303 question is one of the most commonly asked questions for newbies, because they are the most common cheap green laser you can buy. Need more members who hang around awhile with a sincere interest in the hobby, AppleShampoo, well... Silly name, makes me think it is a troll just from the get go, should have made a more serious name like StrawberryShampoo!

Well said... "Benefit of the doubt".
Asking a question doesn't immediately make this new member
a troll. I could be wrong, Only time will tell.

Alaskan seems to have had a bit too much Eggnog yesterday
and may be feeling the aftermath..

He probably just likes the group Apple Shampoo and his name isn't so off the cuff as I thought.

In any case, I'd like him to keep posting, let's see what he buys. I deleted my challenges, guess I'm getting old, never heard of that group before. For what it is, or isn't worth, why the huge influx of newbies lately? Are we doing something right and more are coming, or is someone creating a whole bucket load of new member names with questions to amuse themselves?
