Diachi, how genuine is this company do you know?
Their prices are fantastic, only are they too good to be true?

Goldenstar? They are reputable. There's various threads on PL about them, and they've been around for a while.

I bought a 1W (IIRC) 638nm from them and they were pretty good to deal with.

Brilliant, they sell a 4W 520 for less than £1000. :p
That is amazing!

Thanks Diachi.

Opt. Lasers sells a 4 watt RGB for about 1000 USD, if you go to their web site, on ebay $1500. I like that 8 watt one from GoldenStar, but OptLasers is smaller and would fit in a large barrelled pointer without being too big.

Goldenstar sells a 4 watt RGB for much less than optlasers, but they don't show me what is inside, how they produce the beam, does it have a wave plate and a PBS cube in it to combine powers when doubling up the red? If not, it might not be as good.

Depends on how they did things to get that 4 watts and which diodes. If they didn't use two 638nm diodes to get that 1 watt of red, they are probably pushing that diode too hard. Their box looks much bigger than the OptLasers unit but their beam specs are better IF they are referring to full angle divergence, but since they don't say so, I bet half angle which makes it have a higher divergence than the Optlasers 4 watt unit..

So those are my questions, is the divergence full or half angle and how are they getting that 1000 mw of 638 nm. If from a single diode, are they pushing the red diode too hard?

This Goldenstar RGB is interesting, but like diachi stated it is very blue heavy. I suspect it is far from ideal, but if you need an RGB 1 watt on a shoestring budget, I guess this would do. If I were to pull the trigger it would have to be something like ArcticDude has.

1 watt unit is certainly worth a try for that money and better looking than others I've seen so far.

It is nice looking from the photo of it, but it doesn't seem to come with the driver or the power supply, so that $150.00 is likely not enough to get it up and running.

Well, the driver could be added at modest cost, but i wonder about the optical performance of the whole unit: How are the colors mixed, and what are the diameters and divergences on each color?

Somehow i'd suspect the blue is multimode for sure, the green and red may or may not be, both are available at this power level, and the green is so low it could actually be single mode (perhaps a shitty one but still).

Wow, not only are they cheap but are overspec. When I get some more money I might have to take the plunge with one of their 520 modules. :)

Just checked out your thread, very good review and a 100% overspec laser is simply astonishing. 10-20% is normal in most cases, but 100%!

They don't mention anything about color modulation, what's up with that?
