Okay jerry so I'm gona ask the ones Dave didn't clarify to me at all (It was impresive to see how you both answered at my call :p )

1.-About the charging time I mean the normal charge time (based in your experience) I'm not asking about exact minutes, just an idea (4-8-12h?)

2.About the cycle I mean the duty cycle. Isn't a voltage increase going to make it hotter?

3.@Dave: I know but seeing jerry experience... :D @jerry: Aren't a fully charged 3.6 cells gona kill my dilda? I know you got an extreme unit but I'm not willing mine to be the same xd

6.What I don't understand is: dark colors are going to abosrb most of the light. Isn't that reducing a lot the dangerous brightness? Shining it to a white wall is much more harmful right? Then what's so funny of having this laser If I need galsses and I wont see it? and are sunglasses gona protect me a bit?

10. I know dark colored ones, but I mean funny cotidian objects (I recently discovered black cd cases, wich impress my friends a lot :D)

Hope this simplify the work ;D

i've bought that charger before from DX....granted, it didn't work at all when i got it, but it gives a calculation on the back...if i remember correctly it was...

battery mah
-------------- + 2 hours = charging time in hours....so an 800mah battery was suppose to be 6 hours....
200

atleast that what the package said.

and the charger is a piece of crap :)

#6. ...don't understand it...but just incase your mis understanding...laser goggles are for preotection from accidently shining the laser directly into your eye, or ctaching a reflection and getting hit into the eye. just looking at the dot as it's being shined onto another surface is not going to hurt your eyes.

.........i'm stupid and have yet to ever purchase a pair of laser safety goggles.....
cause blindness is fucking awesome!
 <---thats me after i'm blind....not me with safety goggles ;D

Okay thanks.

@Mohrenberg: What I mean is that while using the googles you don't see the laser light at all (it's blocked by the googles ofc), so whats so funny on playing with it then? I have a homemade laser googles for low green lasers and I'm never using them as I just see a small dot. The only utility is when measuring divergence, or when using magnifing glass to burn to see better the real dot.

YOU NEED proper safety glasses for 200mW of red laser light, end of , sunglasses will just make the risk of damage greater.

Like Dave said.. it depend on the condition and charge left in the batteries... It also depend on the
charger it's self.. all chargers are not created equal... You will need to do some charge time
experiments..

2.About the cycle I mean the duty cycle. Isn't a voltage increase going to make it hotter?
A higher battery voltage will make the LD and Driver dissipate more heat... so the duty cycle should
be in relation to the heat buildup... more heat= less ON time..

3.@Dave: I know but seeing jerry experience... :D @jerry: Aren't a fully charged 3.6 cells gona kill my dilda? I know you got an extreme unit but I'm not willing mine to be the same xd
I think you may be mistaken...I certainly don't have more experience than Dave...
here's my $0.02..
I don't believe that 3.6V CR2 batteries will kill your 200mw Red Dilda... I've pumped up to 12V into
one of my Dildas on numerous occasions (on very short "ON" times) and it still outputs over 300mW.

Black Matt (flat... dull...) surfaces will reflect less of a laser's beam. Any surface that is not Matt Black
has the potential to reflect enough of a Laser's beam into your eyes to possibly cause eye damage...
What's the fun of having a laser and being permanently BLIND !!!
NO SUNGLASSES ARE NOT OK...

10. I know dark colored ones, but I mean funny cotidian objects (I recently discovered black cd cases, wich impress my friends a lot :D)
Some CD case are shinny black... stay away from those... they can reflect a good portion of a Laser's
beam...
Get some Safety Goggles or in the not so distant future you may be bidding on a White Cane on eBay...
Hope this simplify the work ;D

I asked you to ask one question at a time.... this single post was 10 freaking questions.. :-/.
I just spent 25 minutes editing and responding to this series of questions....

If in the future... if you ask more than 2 questions on a single post...
I'll ignore it and let people with better and faster typing skills tackle the onslaught...

hehe but you would have spent many time opening-answering-closing 10 times ::)

Next time just do like that

1. 5h

2. 3 mins

;p

"less ON time"-> isn't that the ducty cycle? I exactly meant that. 3V gives almost infinite "ON time" right? 3.7 too? Or this will force me to turn it off every X minutes?

seriously, buy some googles!!! it's the first thing i did before even try to make a DIY laser... now I want to sell them to buy a pair of certified froadband. I have Lasershades from wickedlasers, not very expensive and not certified, but have proven quality and good rep at this forum...
It's all about a false perception of dangers. I mean, you'll be veery careful the first day, the second, the third... but after 1 month whithout eye damage, you'll be more confident and one day.... AWWW
With googles, a direct hit or a direct reflection may mean a "flash" spot in yur vision for 5 minutes. Wihout them... it depends on how lucky you are.

Might be an old topic, but, I'll answer the questions anyways.

1. Usually takes 3 hours or so to complete charge the batteries if they were flat.

2. Well it turns really hot after 1 minute of use or so, can't give a proper answer, I'm sorry.

3. I'm pretty sure the 3.6 cells charges to 4.2 then drops yeah.

4. If you are dark skinned, you will definately feel it's stinging your skin like a bee or worse. You can test this by painting a dark spot on your skin, but be careful, your skin will actually smoke.
I'm white and if I point my laser at my hand with a tripod, focused, I'll feel heat after like 20 seconds or so, I'm serious!

5. Yes

6. These are the best bang for the buck: http://www.dragonlasers.com/catalog/Red-laser-beam-protection-640-750nm--Laser-Eyewear-p-16255.html
I have them, they work perfectly.

7. -

8. When mine barely burns the desk, I charge them, then it burns like crazy again.

9. No, don't expect it to be visible in a daylit room, unless you have a REALLY smokey or dusty room.

10. Anything dark colored will work fine. Burns matches almost instantly, pops balloons instantly, etceria.
