I am still bewildered by the idiocy of this arguement. I'm sorry if you take offense but it is seriously an issue. If you are scared of Big Governemtn fine, I can understand that. But you have NO EXPECTATION OF PRIVACY IN A PUBLIC SETTING. That IS the LAW. If you are outside in your back yard that is considered public. If a plane can fly over, so can a drone. If you leave your windows to your house open, that is your fault. If you are nude in your home and someone can see in, you CAN be prosecuted for indecent exposure. This is your fault, not the person who can see in. Why do you feel that due to your negligence that warrants you to destroy someone else's toy? Would you shine a laser at someone with a video camera? Would you run up and smash a news reporter's camera? I would certainly hope not.:wtf:

Or privacy from observation, from a public or other private setting.

It's not just legal, it's also common sense.

Well put. I wonder what makes a mob of people smash a "drone" out of the air because its filming them, but not do anything about, or even comprend, all the people filming them with cell phones at the exact same time. Someone eles said it: it would be eaiser to spy with a small cam in a tree.

I am into rc aircraft, and due to a few bad apples there are a lot of new laws blurring the lines of what's legal and what's not. What is a drone? Is my palm sized quadcopter a drone? What about the version with a camera? What if it's a one rotor heli from 5 below, will little bobby get charged playing with his Xmas toy because the FAA says its a drone?

Let's get real... I'm not rich, nor do I really expect to be. I will likely never get to fly a plane or heli. The next best option for me would be to mount a camera and get some goggles for a place/heli/quadcopter. It would be the most realistic experience I can afford. I feel like that is being taken away. It makes me sad because I have yet to be able to afford an FPV system but I feel like it is within reach.

I am sure that if you are in public, and people can see you, that you cannot blind them...with them seeing you as the reason...as in public you are simply in public, and different laws apply. This is why paparazzi can take pics when a person is in public w/o permission, etc.

I also would doubt that, unless there was some suspicion, that a government would waste resources on spying on some random guy.

If you are NOT some random guy, and they are suspicious of you, as they will, if spying on you, SEE you aiming at them, whether its a laser, an ICBM or a Aegis, shotgun, etc...I don't think you need to worry about your weapon of choice really...you're already in deep doo doo at that point anyway.

FPV, 360x180 view systems are most definitely within reach. I expect we'll have actual systems like that, that allow full viewing immersion, not just a flat image, within 2-3 years. Will be pricey for a while. The basically first generation of headsets, oculus rift, htc vive, will end up costing people around 2k when all is said and done. Cameras made to actually record that kind of content are also not cheap, but as cameras go, also not super expensive.

Horizon Hobby makes a micro quadcopter fpv kit ready-to-fly with goggles and transmitter for about $400. Nothing needed and anyone can fly it. No FCC requirement. I appreciate the suggestion, I want something a bit more powerful that I can do Quad-Racing with.

The Versa-Copter v2 seems to be a good beginner platform with a large amount of information out there and guides on building and maintaining them. Although I may decide against it if they are as flimsy as the v1.
