I've watched that video myself about 20 times and emailed the link to every friend I know.
I'm very nervous now that you will probably have a laser over 1W.

Why do you say that. No need to worry yet.
I used to have a hobby of building airguns (home made) that had about 120 foot pounds. They went half way through a phone book (.50 cal). My dad said it was too dangerous for me to be making stuff like that so now I do this.

Fire through a chronograph. Get fps from the chrono (pro chrony). 406 fps.
Then measure weight of projectile. 330 grain .50 cal almost round fish weight in my ammo.
Use online calculator to find foot pounds or use a certain formula which I can't remember right now. Maybe it's- speed X mass / 490,000?
There you go.
EDIT: gun operates off of 450 psi using a shock pump. Single fire.

I'm glad you know what your talking about then, try 2-1/2" pipe, its perfect for tennis balls, more fun and less dangerous.

You have a point, but would you rather be dead or live with 1 eye? A 330 grain slug that misfires and hits a kid in a house 200' away will knock a hole through him. My dad didn't want me playing with lethal weapons. I think he doesn't mind it being dangerous just not lethal. At least I haven't pointed a laser at a plane yet.

Tbh I would rather die. Living life blind is worse than death in many ways.
Also a laser can do a lot more than just blind you. Burning paper is just the beginning...

That's true. But from my dads perspective, lasers are toys for kids. Which is obviously not true. But this is his idea.
I'd rather have my son playing with those flashlight thingies than a gun.
