Customs opened package

Well, I received my host from DX today for my 445 build.

Surprisingly, it was opened by customs. This is the first time anything has been opened by them.

Anyone else in Canada had their stuff checked ??

I was considering ordering the Arctic but I'm hesitating now...

EDIT: Actually, I still haven't received my microboost driver which drlava shipped out over a week ago...

Hope customs didn't do anything...

you must have had an agent with too much down time.

I think that Canadian customs is on some sort of higher alert right now.

I just had a priority-mail flat-rate envelope take THREE WEEKS to be delivered from California. They had not opened this package. It just took them that long for them to process it through.

We had already given up on the package and were already making arraignments for a refund when the package arrived.

They do random checks too (at least here in holland) - to detect (drug) smuggling and what not. I would be interesting to see if this happens specifically with packages from DX though, they may have found out that DX sells goods banned for import in canada.

Reminds me of a cigarette importing scheme from switserland-taxfree to the rest of europe a few years back. Initially it worked very well, but after a while packages got intercepted from this particular senders address and it went tits up. They cleverly packed them with 2 or 4 packs in a box that resembled something else (book, vhs case etc), and it took well over a year before it ended.

i had a package from dx containing knife and lighters that got partially seized by customs last year, lighters got confiscated because they had fluid apparently. The knife went through.

You're all so lucky .....

Here is matter of luck, how much the custom officers want to work, and "personal ignorance" .....

They basically pass all the packages under a tunnel, for a quick scan ..... if they see that the content looks more high value of the declared one, or if just they don't understand what is the content, they open it (this means, half of the incoming packages becomes opened) .....

Then, if they understand the content, they close it and ship it to you (or, if some custom officers like the content, the package go "lost in transit") ..... if instead they don't understand the content, or if they decide (arbitrarily, ofcourse) that the items looks worth more than the declared value, they send you a documentation request, asking YOU (as receiver) what is the value that the SENDER have declared, what is the content, your ID documents, invoices and/or proofs of payment for proof that you really paid what you declare, a declaration of responsability where you declare that the items are for personal use (if you are a private), and so on ..... and, if you are lucky, maybe in 50 or 60 days, you have your package ..... maybe .....

And, if you're wondering why i'm so mad about my custom offices, maybe is cause, for me, various materials and tools for around 450$ was "lost in transit" through them, in the last year ..... maybe :scowl:
