Confused Alienated Overwhelmed and Pissed Off

I've been wanting to get into lasers and building about a million of them for a long time but first I have to learn about what they are before I can make one. To buy a laser, wellllll there are a hundred people ready to take your money and throw you back dirt. I keep trying to communicate with some dude in Korea on EBay but he gets more and more vague when I ask him, or her for that matter, to be more and more specific. He offers an IR laser but warns "you must buy a driver no can connect to battery. It will last one second only." You get the idea. I ask about what to buy as he has a "store" on EBay and has different circuit boards listed for sale but he will not specifically tell me what board goes to the IR laser he has for sale. I feel this forum is fraught with rip off artists who will exploit people who are trying to learn. When I log onto this forum I'm slammed in the face with advertisements-advertisements and even more advertisements. THEN comes the forums list. I mean this forum seems to have acquired enough donations to keep it running. Not everyone has a rich daddy in the aerospace field who can give young Justine Beiber a lot of money and introduce him to people who are in the laser industry.

You'd better to read more & complain less. This way you would have done a laser time ago.

^ I agree, the OP seems to want it to be easier than it can be for someone with little experience. If you read the stickies and get a better feel of what you are going to need to know, you will get much more help from members here. BTW, welcome to LPF.

Huh? 75% of people here are over 18, so they mostly work for their living.
If you have some problems in your life you should seek medical help.

You can also get keychain laserpointers for several $, if you cut the grass your father probably gives you the money needed to buy those. :na:

I am still wondering why didn't you started a thread in the Ebay forums?

All you need to know is here on this forum. If you don't want buy from an advertised supplier then you don't have to. If you want to build your own then you probably won't need them anyway.

Have a calm look through all the information here and use the search function. There are a couple of guides in my sig that should help you to find the necessary knowledge to build what you're after.

I can understand your frustration dealing with sellers who don't really know their product but probably best to not confuse, alienate, overwhelm and p*ss off the members with your first posts.

Slow and steady reading will get you to your goal and help will be offered along the way with sensible, direct and specific questions. Ones like, "What driver do I need?", are a bit vague to start with so try to narrow down your requirements before asking a generalised question that has been answered many times in the past.

Why do you need IR and what wavelength how you chosen? What are you planning on building? What diode are you going to use? What output are you looking for? What's your power source? What module and lens are you going to use? These are questions you should already have a good idea how to answer before asking for more advice. If you can't answer any of them then you need to spend some time on the basics. If you can answer some of them then include what you know already in any post asking for further help as this will aid us in guiding you in the right direction.

A lot of other people on here have jobs as well. If you work hard enough they will give you a paycheck. You can then buy lasers.
