Default Common Laser Problems W/ Solutions

I have been on the forum for about 2 months and I have seen countless threads asking why

Examples:

My Laser won't turn on?
Did I break my Laser?
Etc..

I decided that making a thread on how to solve most common problems many people face everyday.

Problem #1:
Question: My laser's dot is dim and sometimes seem to be getting brighter, but then dims down.

Common Solution:
DPSS lasers are very sensitive to temperature. Try and hold the laser in your hand, or you can also try to cool the laser down by storing it in a cool place in your house.
Secondary Solution:
Batteries, most batteries shipped with eBay lasers are well...crap! They work for only about 5 minutes then die. Try to pop new batteries in there

Problem #2:
Question: My DPSS laser isn't producing light, and I made sure the batteries are fine(and in the right order).
Common Solution:
If this is the case one trick you can use is try and aim your laser at your wall and aim your phone/computers camera at the wall. If you see a "white dot" that means the crystals inside your laser have been displaced and that laser is as good as dead, unless you want a IR laser.

Problem #3:
Question: I bought a high powered laser(500mW and +) and it cannot burn anything/or it takes awhile.
Common Solution:
If your laser takes awhile to burn/light anything consider it's wavelengths, different wavelengths will take different's amount of time to burn/light materials. Another thing to look out for is how focused if your laser, this is the main problem people face, most lasers(if focusable) will have a movable tip which can be turned left/right, turn that tip until the dot is at it's tinnest. You can also try and color the object in question with a black sharpie.
Secondary Solution:
If you are positive you bought a high powered laser(500mW and +) and it still cannot burn, you can try and return the laser to the seller(you most likely have been scammed, and you will not be refunded), another thing you may try is add a focusing mirror in front of your laser, this will not increase its power, but it will make burning/lighting materials easier.
Hint: Only buy from reputable companies to avoid this issue.

Problem #4:
Question: I cannot see my lasers beam at night.
Common Solution:
532nm is the common wavelength that will have the easiest visible beam. If you have anything other then a laser in the (GREEN)
wavelength spectrum you can always try and add fog/smoke in front of your laser to see it's beam. If you have a high enough powered laser in other wavelengths the beam may be visible but will be dim compared to a 532nm(1W and +).
Hint: Use this tool to calculate different wavelengths beams required to match a 532nm 500mW(For example)
Tool:Beam: (532nm 100mw) vs. (445nm 500mw)

Problem #5:
Question: I Pot-Modded my laser and it doesn't work anymore, what has happened?
Common Solution:
None, if you pot-modded your laser and you made sure the batteries work fine(have voltage) you have killed your laser. Pot-Modding your laser increases the power passed threw the diode, thus the diode not being built to handle that will just overcharge and die. DO NOT POT-MOD.

Thank you for reading, this is just a thread I decided to make to help new members, and anyone who may have simple questions about their lasers.

Once again, if you feel anything editing is needed, just tell me.

Your problem is of a different nature entirely ^ Batteries exploding don't count

--

Problems 1 and 2... specify DPSS or specific wavelengths. I have a 520nm diode and it functions just fine, even for a half hour of continuous use. I also have a 473nm DPSS laser that can only be on for a minute and a half at most.

Remember MOST DPSS lasers also will only emit IR if the crystals are out of alignment.

That concludes my DPSS lesson for today.

Some person are like running a blog. The reason for this is that they like writing as hobby. Then, they prefer to share Some data that could aid different people.
