Those caps are pressfit and can be a real pain to remove without damaging the laser...Try using a compressed air can to blow the dust out of the head, also a mini-swab with alcohol can be used through the aperature opening butisn't always recommended because in certain instances it can make things worse.

If you decide to try and remove the cap, search the threads, there was a procedure that involved 2 blocks of wood and a vice (the vice alone can damage or at very least scratch the hell out of the cap)

NOTE: Oops, I just saw that you CAN unscrew the head (there are so many posts that are just the opposite, sorry). Then just go ahead with a soft cotton swab and some isopropyl alcohol. make sure to dry it with another swab thoroughly and you should be OK (you might have to do it several times to get it completely clean, though)

It's kinda big for what you need, but the brush could be really helpful.

What you could try also is getting a dust blower (look under the hobby section-> photography) it could really help you.

What I always do is put one of those plastic heads on my large bicycle pump which turns it into a thin stream of air. This can clean keyboards, lasers, blow dirt of a bike and many more useful things and even in a small, cheap pump it should include one of those heads and be more than powerful enough to blow dust away from your lens.
