Can a battery powered pen be converted to a plug-in?

Is there any way to rig up a battery powered pen/portable laser to be plugged into the wall? Presumably with a DC adaptor...

I'm guessing a pen that's powered by 2 AAAs would need a 3V DC adaptor... but how would you convert it?

Is it possible?

I'd rather not "ruin" the pen by soldering, can't I just twist a wire onto the spring?

Yep, but it would be more "secure" if you soldered it.

If I (and anyone else) spends $250 on a yellow pen, I think we're going to be reluctant to permanently alter it.

In my case, since the pen will just sit there powering the laser show, I'm not too worried about a perfectly secure connection.

When you say clip the + wire to the body, do you literally mean anywhere on the body of the pen? Much of these things can be plastic or rubberized...

You can use a paper clip. Just make sure the wire touches the inside of the barrel, or the outside if the threads are exposed.

You can try making a dummy battery with wood and then running a piece of metal (could be solder wire) through it's length, then getting two wires out of it and connecting it to a power supply.

How are you going to close the laser with 2 wires hanging out?

He's afraid to solder the spring. Do you think he wants to drill holes in it?
