Clif, I was wondering about getting better cells and how they would effect power. Now I know! thanks for this guys!

^^^Thanks for the credit:p

I'm actually at a loss to explain the difference. Ideally the driver should regulate to the point where the battery wouldn't matter, but my firsthand experience has proven otherwise. Apparently yours as well.

Did you run the test with the AW at 4.2v to start btw?

Yep, I fully charged it when they arrived (I also bought a couple 16340's which made a difference in a 445nm B50 build - but I'm not sure if the trustfire was charges when I compared the two)

I'm by no means a battery guru, but I have to believe the difference in the batteries has something to do with the battery's own internal resistance, which probably explains the reason an IMR 18650 can handle like double the max current of a trust/ultra fire battery. And their rated capacity 2000mah is probably dead on, not that I tested it. Certainly the 3000 and 4000 mah cheap ones are lying through their teeth, as the best trustfire I have heard of only acheived around 2400-2500mA maybe.

Just ordered a couple of this green 3100mah Panasonic cells with a wpII charger, I want to break 500mw with this laser

With the good battery that's a distinct possibly ;)

Ugh... I wish I had some more skills to utilize, damn my liberal arts education:banghead:

Anyway, based on seeing review after review, it seems to me like the modules in these can be pushed safely to well over 400mW and far far higher.

With better heatsinking and drivers 600mW+ is not at all inconceivable.

My first thought is the "free" (in terms of risk to the laser) gain we might be able to achieve with better optics. I wish there was a G-1 lens for 532, so to speak.

P.S. don't feel bad, I have a degree in engineering-physics with a minor in math. I've forgotten nearly all of it over the years. I even had optics and all I remember was the basic eyeglasses formulae.

I have no plans over the weekend as of yet, and do have a g1 lying around.... will be interesting to see what gains there are if any.

I haven't noticed any degradation using 405G1 with 638 and 650nm lasers, and there are gains over the cheaper lenses, so while I wouldn't call it a "free gain" if the gain mirrors what I've seen with 445nm or even 650nm lasers, I'll be a very happy owner of an ~800mW o-like:D

Heh, thanks, scary how much we forget huh? I can't wait for the day when we can have neural implants that still allow us to forget naturally but, allow us to remember if we are actively pursuing information.

That is what google is, but lower tech...

Ok guys I just tested my older version of this 400mw 532nm O-like laser, this time it read ~450mw (no lens modding) and when metered through an IR filter the average power output was reduced by about 50mw on mine, so my version at least does have IR leakage.
By comparison, my 150mw+ Nova Lasers black pen metered the same output with and without the IR filter. When my batteries are good this pen does over 160mw.

I've got some ir filters on the way from o-like and I'll do the same when they get here... I paid $50 for DHL but got EMS  so I don't know how much slower that will be... DHL is expensive but usually FAST from China/Asia.

My problem with o-like and using the express shipping options is they sometimes have an annoying tendency not to ship stuff for a while.

Yep, them along with several other Chinese based stores :(
Took over 3 months before my little copper heat sinks got in.
Worst part is when you order in large quantities they pretty much force you to pay $40-50+ for EMS or other fast shipping options - but whats the point when they wait a week or so before shipping it in the first place.
