okay so i like to be a little bit different and lets be honest not everyone has an orange laser so i am thinking of making one and would like your views and opinions

diode /  http://cgi.ebay.ca/635nm-5mW-laser-...ryZ53141QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

i know its line generator but as far as i know its just the lense and that can be swapped out easily

driver /  flexdrive or maybe build my own DDL and try that ????

host /  MXDL 3W http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.2097

and then build a custom heatsink from aluminium on a lathe

all comments and help appreciated

thanks jamie

First, let's get something straight... 635nm is NOT orange - it's just slightly more orange than your typical red laser, but hardly noticeable if you don't have them side-by-side to make a comparison.

That should work... I'd advise getting a module direct from Aixiz, instead of one from ebay. You'll want to double-check the current and voltage requirements before you try to make a driver for it... it's going to be different than that of a 16x or 803T diode.

EDIT: wow, I'm dumb... since Aixiz is the one selling that one, you'll be fine with ebay. I really should learn to actually read the listings. :p

I think 635nm is a very interesting color. Its not orange orange. But compared to 670nm and 594nm. Its ~orange.

Also the more powerful it gets the more orange it looks. So I would advise looking for 635nm with a little more power then 5mW. I think you can get up to 30mW if you look in the right places. (like here)

Yeah if your going 635nm you want some power behind it, i have a altlasnova 635nm pointer and to every one its red until i get out my dx 200 red. Its a nice thing to have, or add to your collection.

Your probably going to want something 10mW+ for a really good orange.

650nm

635nm

593nm

635nm Is a great color, although is pretty expensive for higher power.

even my 632nm HeNe doesn't really look orange, it's just a brighter red than 650nm which is a darker red

I think you will be better off keeping it, you most likely won't get what price you'd like for it with the DX200 red selling for $44 shipped.

So would this module be able to replace the red one in that box that you made?
