Hello, I am new to the LPF forum as well as to laser building. Me and my son are going to attempt to build the DVD laser from this tutorial using a 20x DVD burner Diode.

Random How To: DIY- How To Make A Burning Laser The Right Way! Now With Video Of Laser In Action!

My question is this is going to be for a science fair project so I do not want to spend a large amount og a couple of pair of safety glasses for me and my son. Is there a cheap pair that is adequate for this build that anyone knows of? If I have to go expensive then I will of course, I don't want our eyes to get damaged, but hate to shell out 100+ dollars if I do not have to.

Thank you for your time.

Firstly, this is the wrong section. There's a section about laser safety and legal issues. It covers everything about safety goggles. You should have posted there instead.

Secondly, do a search on the forum (there's a handy google bar up there) as there are many threads regarding this issue, you will be able to find what you want pretty soon.

I'll give you somewhere to start:
You could try looking at the Eagle Pair goggles at survivallaser.com. Those aren't 100+ dollars, and are trusted by our members here.

Also, you have me a little worried. If it's a science fair project, are you going to be demonstrating it in front of other people? That's not going to be very safe.

Thanks for the help I will post it in the safety section, we are going to mount this project on a board and have a device at the end for the laser to go into. there was a thread about using a pipe cap that is painted flat black inside as a stop for the laser.
