I am wondering what the best laser color in general is. I have a couple of questions:
What is the best VISABLE light laser color for burning things?
What is the most visable laser color for viewing is (what is the brightest?)?

If you have any laser purchasing advice, or laser advice in genral, because I’m realitivly new to lasers. Please let me know! ANY ADVICE OR INFO IS WELCOMED!

(Besides laser safety, I know all of that stuff)

If you don’t wanna spend to much $ learn to build lasers (it’s not hard). This forum has all the info you need

Laser brightness takes into account for luminous efficacy. For typical lighting (photopic) conditions; ie not dark enough for your eyes to need to adjust, any laser closer to 555nm is going to be best for visibility as this is the photopic peak. But this peak shifts to 507nm when you are in darkness (scotopic). So one of the best all round wavelengths for brightness you can get actually is 532nm or there around. A diode alternative would be a 520nm.

As for burning, taking into account that you are probably after lots of power instead of good beam specs, then the blue band usually offers the most power. But as I said before, for brightness you want to get as close to the green part of the spectrum as possible. The best diode I can think of then is the NUBM07E which operates at 465nm+ giving a much brighter blue than 450nm.

But safety and some research first. ;) I do not recommend jumping into high power lasers straight off at all.

What looks dim can be very dangerous to your eyes, if you know all that stuff about safety then you would not have asked your question.

The further you get from the center of the visible spectrum in either direction the less visible a laser will be but the stronger it will have to be in order to see it, the important point is you can not judge power by perceived brightness.

I like your title "best laser color in general." It's like that age old question which is better Coke or Pepsi, Ford or Chevy.

Just so everybody knows, the "the science is settled, the debate is over." Pepsi is better than Coke and Chevy is better than Ford. :D

Left half!

Ian, are you saying that you know all about laser safety? (Besides laser safety, I know all of that stuff)

If you know all the safety stuff then would you would not be asking the questions asked.

Light of whatever "color" does not have any temperature--"burning" all depends many things, importantly on the absorption of light energy by what you want to heat or burn .

For most purposes you are far better off with a box of kitchen matches if you want to burn things.

Please make a post in the Welcome sub-forum with something more about yourself, if you expect any real help.

PS General is not spelled genral

Could be or one of the others

Forever locked into my mental list of numbers is 18436572 and I also like coke-a-cola better too. ;)
For what engine is that firing order? Or engine block code?
Or Coca Cola's secret ingredients:D
