The problem is mostly that it just does not work. Its like banning convicted felons of owning firearms... very good idea in itself, but if you look at repeat offenders and the weapons used in those offenses, you can see the measure has no practical effect at all.

They're the same degenerate lowlifes who go around at night smashing car windows, dropping rocks off overpasses and doing other retarded shit.

I guess that is exactly what it boils down to. Some people just have to endanger others as a form of entertainment. Dropping rocks (or pavement tiles) from overpasses has resulted in 2 deaths and several images and damages in the last couple of years here in holland.

The problem is that its easier to ban lasers then it is to ban rocks or other heavy objects - it won't be effective, but politically imposing a ban could be seen as a 'solution'.

I totally agree, because a ban would be inefficient, difficult to impose and probably against the law, nothing like that would probably happen unless the situation gets far more serious.

At the same time however a license/fee/backround check/ or what would be interesting and would affect even the chinese vendors-- a TAX (this would be very improbable) on lasers or laser parts would largely affect Mischevious people. For someone who really wants to bring down a landing plane, it would be alot easier to use guns.

Good info Sal and good points guys! Thanks for all the input. I am amazed that these persons lasing these aircraft are not being nailed to the wall. There should be more of that in the news but I'm not seeing it. Are they not catching these nuts? You would think that with all the surveillance capability of Homeland Security and all of the cameras from businesses that they could track down the offenders especially with such a concentration of offenses in these areas??

Agreed with a lot of that. IMO anyone interested in lasers solely to "burn stuff" should probably just buy some fireworks or get a magnifying glass to settle their pyro appetite. When I got my first powerful lasers I had some fun burning stuff and made some videos, but for me it's always been mostly about the beautiful beam. I haven't burned anything in years with my lasers, but shining them outdoors at night and in the occasional snowstorm/fog remains fun to this day.

im learning all this new stuff on lpf. but all i can say is. karma will always come around:na:. one day, they point at the plane and think its funny. its only funnier when they get picked up 10 minutes later just to be escorted to a jail cell, in which they will live in for the next 5-10 years. o yea, in the same cell as Hellga.
