BBC looking to interview East Midlands person

This is Patrick Murphy from ILDA and LaserPointerSafety.com. I just received a message from a BBC TV producer. She is looking for a laser pointer user in the East Midlands or "not too far from there".

If that is you, contact her as soon as possible at sarah.sturdey@bbc.co.uk "for a chat about a TV feature."

I don't know anything more about this except she is a legitimate BBC reporter for national news in the East Midlands.

How is someone supposed to know "it is me!"? So she is basically looking for anyone in the east midlands, so any of the 4.5 million people qualify? And if the person knows it is them, they have obviously been up to no good and so they wouldnt come forward anyway? What on earth is the point of this thread?:thinking:

That's a very vague and rather cryptic message. I like the BBC but I would also not want a news organization asking questions about any laser I owned. Regardless of how safe someone is I can't believe that the story line would be anything but negative and the person would end up as the bad boy poster child.

I agree, something is wrong here.

The point, if it is not readily apparent from the OP, is that a BBC producer has some questions and would like to talk to someone who uses laser pointers. I assume she wants to find out what laser pointers are good for; why someone would want to own and use them.

It seems to me like finally here is a chance for laser pointer users to get their point across. A legitimate, safe user of laser pointers should not have anything to worry about.

Finally, if there is someone interested, they can contact the producer and judge for themselves whether they want to participate. It is their free will choice.

No unfortunately it was not apparent from your wording. Had you written e.g. the BBC is looking to interview laser enthusiasts from the East Midlands in order to discern what motivates and drives them, it might have been a little clearer. As you had written it, it seemed like they were looking for a particular individual in the East Midlands. This begged the question, why? Due to the numerous responses questioning their motives, I'm guessing it wasn't clear for others either. :beer:
