PullBangDead,

You could teach or instruct damn near anything to anyone. I had no idea what you were talking about at first but 5 minutes later I understand how a diamond transfers heat in its simplest form, using phonons. That was literally amazing, I was following right along.

Well, for multimillionaries with DIY laser hobby, i don't doubt that diamond and gold are good choices ..... unfortunately, most of us can't afford them :p

BTW, what about brass ? ..... harder than copper, more economic, more easy to work (never tried to handy thread or machine copper ? ..... aaargh) ..... and with still a decent thermal conductivity :D

Discussed here. Aluminium is superior.

Addition: Sodium in some nuclear reactors is used simply because it melts easily but has high boiling point; has low density (important since you have to pump it); a good heat capacity and conductivity since it's a metal (but not in any way strikingly good). Water, the other obvious choice, has a much higher heat capacity but low heat conductivity; also you need it under high pressure to raise the boiling point to something usable.

Hell, too bad i don't have any machine ..... i just got a copper bar for free, and no way for turn it in diode hosts ..... it's frustrating :(

BTW, yes, i know that the transfer efficency is less than Al, just saying it about the hardness and easyness of work it in heatsinks that can host directly the diodes (no aixiz or other modules in between, i mean :))
