Some of these lasers like the portable ones at Laserglow look to be housed in relatively cheap looking hosts, but still cost a small fortune. Like $489 for a 200mW green or 200mW blue. I'd expect to pay that much if it was 1992. But lasers are much less expensive to manufacture across the board now that its 20 years later. I'd sincerely hope that the internal components are top notch!
