Aixiz Module Light Ring?

Can anyone please tell me what is going on with my lasers? On nearly all of them, there is a ring of light that circles the main beam, often accompanied by other unwanted distortion. An example:

Not the best pictures, but you get the idea. And the secondary dot that is present below the main dot is not a fluke of the camera, it is really there.

Is this normal? It happens with the standard Aixiz acrylic lens as well as the glass one for 650nm, which is what is in the pictures. This is certainly the worst example but my other lasers have the same characteristic red ring.

It's with an LPC-815 diode, if that matters. Please advise!

Is there anything I can do to the lenses I currently have? Or is this just how all the Aixiz lenses are?

It looks like your diode is not "square" in the diode pocket (and probably not all the way pressed in either). It looks like it is sitting "crooked" in the pocket. That is what it looks like when light is reflecting off of the threading inside the module. Press the diode in until it is slightly recessed into the diode pocket. That will help assure that it is in there straight.

Either that or there is a flaw in the lens/nut.

Have you tried a different lens? If so, see the above comment.

Peace,
dave

Yeah, this is the way it looks on all 6 of the lasers I currently have, although the others aren't this bad. They only have a ring around the beam. Do you think the ring is also caused by the diode not being seated in the housing properly?

Daves reply is my best guess. The diode must not only be recessed, to get more light into the lens, but it also must be pointed dead straight. A nicely pressed diode will be pretty straight all on it's own. Check your presses, do they look at all like the first two diagrams above?

I have been trying to press the diode further into the housing but it just doesn't seem to want to budge. I've been using small drill bits wedged between one arm of a vise and the diode, with the other arm against the lens side of the module, and the bits themselves start bending before the diode will move. I need to find another tool to press the diode in with, possibly a small socket head as I have seen mentioned in the forum. Hopefully that'll work. Thanks for the info guys, I'll try it again tomorrow.
