Hey guys! Alright I'm in a bit of a dilemma about buying me self a laser pointer.
I'll make this brief, two options:
520nm 1watt PL-E Mini OR 465nm 1.4watt PL-E Mini?
Both are pretty and both look cool, I am leaning towards the 520nm but the $70 price bump is pushing me back, after reading lots of reviews on LPF I am still confused on which one would be a better choice for me.
In terms of color and brightness and coolness overall, what would be a better choice? My taste in this case would be a color that is brighter with better divergence and beam diameter. That kinda describes the 520nm probably, but what if 465nm is just much better? Any advice would be appreciated. :)

Last thing: this is a new account I just made but I'm not really new to these forums. I had an old account in which I rarely visited LPF, so that account doesn't really matter to me cause the name sucks haha. (If you can tell me how to change my nickname on my old account I might go back to it but I like this account more even though its fresh.)

Okay this was not brief I'm sorry.
Last last note: I know the dangers of lasers and am aware of most (if not all) safety rules when it comes to handling these awesome, crazy... technology sticks. :tinfoil: I would tell more about my self in the new comers page but its 2am here in CA right now and school sucks so hopefully later.
Thank you! :):thanks:

Welcome ultracrepidarian, from another Californian. :)

Which color to buy is just like buying a car. It's up to what works for you personally. JL does some top quality builds so either way your going to get a fine unit. But I suspect either way you go, your going to want the other one in time, these technology sticks  are just so awesome to have. I know I'm tons of help. :tinfoil:, but best wishes and welcome (again) to the forum. :)

Well, you're off to a good start, IMO you won't go wrong buying any J/L product. :yh:
If you're just looking for "brightness", the 520nm is the winner by far, but for the "coolness" factor, it's strictly your choice as Bob mentioned.

If you don't own either wavelength, I think you'll love which ever one you pick!

Don't forget, Jetlasers customer service is the best in the business!

I did a short review of the J/L Mini 465nm a while ago, and can say that it's a sweet little high quality laser.

BTW - Welcome back to LPF! You probably should get your two accounts issue straightened out, since you are not supposed to have more tham one account.

There is no better or worse.
Whatever wavelength/color you want is the one for you to get.

Get the 2 LPF accounts issue sorted if true and you are not a returning previously banned member.
It doesn't matter if you don't care about your "old" account and created a new one and now have two accounts --you will get banned for multiple accounts. How could you have been a member and not know that?

Considering the stipulations you set forth 520 nm is the best choice.

Thanks guys for the help and welcoming! I own a 520nm but its only 25mw, however I do not own a 465nm, I am still leaning towards 520nm though. Does anyone know when the sale on PL-E Minis ends?

Get the 2 LPF accounts issue sorted if true.

I should have known that sorry, is there a way to delete my old account? I will get that sorted out ASAP!

Sounds good--if not a former banned member -----EP will sort it for you.

Welcome back --enjoy your return to LPF. Is a great forum as forums go.

If you like "green" and want the best beam quality, divergence, and great brightness you might want to consider the PL-E Mini 532nm 600mW or 700mW
Beam would 3.5X brighter than 465nm and dot 6X brighter. See: http://lsrtools.1apps.com/relativebrightness/?nm1=465&mw1=1400&nm2=532&mw2=700&useRaleigh=on

Thank you, I took a look at it few days ago and I'll take another peek, I already have a 400mw 532nm laser pointer, even though its a cheap Chinese one that I got for a $100 with a terrible dot, I still like it a lot, its brighter than my 1 watt blue lasers.
I love using that wavelength calculator, its so helpful and entertaining haha.

If you don't already have any blue lasers I'd go with the 465nm. It sounds like you already have some green lasers. 465nm is a really nice color when you look at the beam in the sky. It's pretty close to what I'd call true blue compared to the 445/450nm lasers which have always seemed more purple to my eyes.

Thank you, I already bought the green one earlier today! I might buy the blue one in the future though because as you said it is a very pretty color. :yh:

No 532nm? My 400mw reads 700mw for a minute or two. Nice round output.

Sorry for late response, I already got the PL-E Mini 520nm haha, maybe in distant future I'll get the 532 as well, I just liked the more than double the power in 520nm with the same price tag as the 532nm if that makes any sense.

Only thing is, for 520 nm, the divergence will be much higher than 532nm DPSS, if you don't care, agreed, nice improvement.
