Hi Badboybilly!

I just wanted to comment and tell you that I hope you can find someone to help you out with your laser. With that eing said, let me add a bit of confidence to this thread.

A few years back, I was given a spartan (532nm/Green) that was doing some really funky stuff. The owner knew not how to repair it, so it was given to me with the hope that it could be fixed and later returned. I took the challange and it wasn't too difficult. Being a 532nm unit, it won't be the same as your 589 but the disassembly/assembly should be similar.

Here's a few photos of what to expect.

You can see that the uncorrected beam was about as straight as a bent nail. This is without the collumation lens. What happened was, something inside the module shifted, knocking everything out of alignment.


In this second pic you can see the bare module. It came out with a spanner wrench from Harbor freight.


In this pic you can see the bare crystals. I'm not 100% positive if they needed to be corrected, but I did so anyways since I had it open.

In this pic you can see the bare pump diode.


In this pic, everything has been thermal epoxied back together. All aligned (by hand, no jig)


Good as new

Awesome buddy, so very similar module to the 26mm/55.5mm 589 very interesting to see the inside, nice, I've gone with just purchasing the bare module so all is good.

Now you have that dreaded waiting period as CNI manufactures your personal 589 module which as Adam said can take anywhere from a couple days to 2 weeks. Ugh! All the best

Yep but gives me a bit of time to start on a custom host, I was working on an aluminium support block for a small RGB, still waiting on my new boring milling head to arrive, I think I'll put that aside and start on a special host,

What is even worse is Adam refunded me the 2 payments I made previously and I just sent another $714 au dollars, the refund isn't even in my PayPal yet and then will take more time to transfer from my PayPal to my credit card!



I wonder if the module would be happy in one of these maglights!

Do the bare modules come with the collimation lens already installed? If not, you may want to consider that als a potential obstacle.

I was wondering about that myself actually, I need to ask Adam but you would think so for that money, same price for just module or complete Spartan!

Arnt they all fixed focus!

When I built my 561nm I had to order a bare module, and it came with fixed focus. I assume the Spartan modules would be the same.

In my 638nm Spartan, the lens appears to be part of the module and the entire thing held in with a brass retaining ring. Doubt the overall design would change too much with the different offerings in the Spartan host.

Here's some good news,

The trial run with the Nano has arrived, I suppose if package is packed well like this it has a good chance of making it to Australia,

Now when I told him to tape the host with electrical tape this isn't what I meant and told him I didn't want the holster but he has cut of the wicked laser naming so I have no complaints,
He put led flashlights on the package like I mentioned but no sign of scrap flashlight parts like I mentioned and obviously no return address witch is just fine,

So looks like our customs officer was about to go on his morning tea break!

So It didn't work, positive to tailcap a faint purple light inside the barrel not sure if it's the indicator lamp or a led blue ray diode but no biggy, easiest host I've ever taken apart and the module fits our normal acrilic lenses so should be an interesting project.

Or I could just pop a 150mw new blue ray diode I have we will see!

Just herd back from Adam and he tells me the collimating lens is part of the host housing and his engineer said a customer would not be able to assemble it with hand tools, also that the module is pressed in the host by a machine and that I would not be able to assemble it.

He has me a little concerned I'm sure it's going to be a bit off work but from what I've seen theses modules are not pressed into the host with force, maybe a machine but they are not tight and there collimating lens are just glued in place so I doubt it's going to be that difficult,

I assured him I could assemble it without issue. No warranty though!
So he's sending me the module, collimating lens, and housing I assume that is the host.
