Okay im relatively new to these forums but I have been looking at lasers for a long time. I even tried to build a blu ray one at some point but it failed miserably because I cant solder well

BUT I think I have found the laser for what I want in a laser. small burning power, low cost, AND relatively safe.

But the question is...Should I buy this laser? Is it any good??

(Also if so what type goggles should I buy)

Buy SD-301 Focusable 50mw 532nm Green Laser Pointer with Safety Key Lock (Black) in US$ 30.19 in Low Price- Free Shipping

Nice, check this one out, a little bit more money but much cooler design on them! I'm thinking about getting this one!

Power Rock Green laser Torch 50mW /Focusable&Waterproof [OL-MRGL50] - $34.99 : Zen Cart!, The Art of E-commerce

Got one of these in this week, it got here in right around 13 days total. I'm pretty dang pleased with it! I even typed up a few paragraphs on it , if you'd like to read a bit more about it. http://laserpointerforums.com/f45/o-like-50mw-rock-power-waterproof-70271.html

the thing is that one has a duty cycle you must obey or youll fry it :/

Most lasers will have a duty cycle that must be respected, otherwise yes, you'll fry them. Before ordering from anywhere, make sure you do your homework on the company. I've never heard anything about "Lazerpoint", but O-Like has a generally very good reputation around here.

Oh, and: don't expect much burning from a 50mW, even a focused one. You'll get tiny whisps of smoke off black paper, but nothing much more.

I own that O-like power rock laser. It was my first laser above 5mw! I would highly recommend it, it works great. The battery lasts me about 2 weeks before I need to recharge! The duty cycle isn't a problem. I leave it on for a few minutes and it dosen't even feel very warm, since it is only 50mw. O-like sells a 1W laser in that host as well. I cannot imagine how bad the duty cycle of that must be!

The blind leading the blind, LOL.

If you want a cheap 50mW green laser then buy any 5mW green laser. 5mW green lasers are mostly over spec, some really over spec. Its highly unlikely you will ever get an on spec 5mW laser. The brightness between a 20mW and 50mW is just about not noticeable, and neither of them will burn that well. So why waste money on one 50mW, when you can buy 4-5 5mW laser for the same price. And if you are mindful of where you point it, you wont need goggles.

Lasers being overspec is what im couting on ;)

The laser is 50mW BUT ive seen a benchmark done on it and it peaked at 86 mW

Thats what im couting on and hey, for a first laser it isnt bad at all

Also about the goggles... Not sure if you are trolling or just dumb

Goggles are a MUST for anything over 5mW

If I may, both times I've ordered from o-like, I've ended up with simple, but reliable chargers. Never had a problem with them. Also, that laser uses the 18650 battery, which is very popular, and would be easy to find a second for relatively cheap.

Dumb? Look at this guy's rep. I mainly use my 50mW outside to point out stars, so I don't use goggles. I would recommend goggles if you were burning or using it indoors(but you can't really burn with a 50 anyway).

I live in a very populated city and pointing it at the sky is like begging for someone to call the cops on you. Anyways im going to use it most in my gym and with all the phosphorescent surfaces Im going to need goggles haha
