Hey within the next 3 months I am planning on getting a good green laser around 35mW. First where would I buy a great quality reliable 35 mW laser. Also, what kind of safety should I be considering with a laser at this level of powerful. Are safety goggles necessary at all times? Will it instantly cause permanent eye damage if it reflects into your eye? Thanks for your answers :D

Optotronics offers very nice pen lasers, look for Eagle Pair (can be found at Survival Lasers) for some good goggles

Do not look into the beam, and do not look at a reflected beam (yes this cause permanent damage). If you're careful, safety goggles aren't exactly required... but it's better to be safe than sorry. I personally am not a big fan of goggles, I can't really see the dot, much less the beam with goggles on :p but you need to be careful, damage done cannot be reversed

Cool, thanks. Ya, I was planning on using the laser without safety goggles for astronomy and using it with safety goggles for experimentation.

Hey vota!

It most likely won't pop ballons, you will need to focus the beam for that to happen. But it also depends on the color, blue will most likely pop at 35mW, but red won't.

Also, if you are going to use it for astronomy, watch out for planes first!

Cool, any suggestions for what company?? I was looking at wicked laser's nano which comes in green, purple, and red and they claim that they pop baloons and burn matches. Unfortunately, I have heard that as a company wicked lasers has poor quality.

I recommend laserbtb, dragon lasers, sci fi lasers, or a member here. I have lasers from all these sources and my favorite by far is the members. Noooooo contest . But for a small green I think livin loud has a wl evo fir sale right now. Just in your power range. 45$

The color itself doesn't matter for the burning - except that greens are usually less stable (which will affect burning). Also a X-colored laser will have a harder time burning an X-colored object. The focusing is what really matters.

Actually wavelength does matter. Shorter wavelengths will burn most materials more easily
because shorter wavelengths are absorbed more strongly. Of course there are exceptions
though. There are always exceptions.
