Im not familiar with ir lasers at all. I couldn't say.

I just thought id share my findings :p

Btw arayn, that tube you posted looks similar if not exactly the same as the one i posted.

I wonder if they are made by the same company.

This is difficult to say but they looks very similar :)

BTW this Class 4 Burning, Cutting Lasersis another company that sells 20W CO2 tubes. There is also an handheld "death ray" but it's very expensive :D

DJNY perhaps you or other members could do a group buy on the lasers. I don't see why it would be a bad thing. Unitednuclear ships based on weight but there are international fees aswell but if you did a group buy you could cut down on the shipping price alot I would assume and possibly the retail price. It can't hurt to try :p

I also forgot to mention to everyone that they are a us based company so it will cost alot more for international shipping.

Wood don't forget you also have to either build or buy a power supply. Also you have to either build or buy a water cooling unit. So your looking at way more money than just the tube.

The water cooling isnt to hard just a pump and a big container of water is Good just keep it below 27C :) , But for long runs a radiator is a good idea , My co2 setup cost me £650 in total - tube , psu and water cooling for long runs . :)

You mean the gun? Needs to be water cooled as well? Eh, I'll stick to my pointers and portables in that case.

Oh I thought you were talking about the death ray. Uhm I don't think you need a water cooling unit for the gun. I'm not entirely sure. I believe hemlock_Mike has a gun. I have the link somewhere and I pm you it when I find it to make sure.

The way those tubes are built if you don't have a water cooling system the tube will crack or shatter due to thermal shock.

Hemlock Mike has built an awesome portable air cooled CO2 laser :) but is possible also to built a water cooled device as the "gun" by Information Unlimited (my previous link)

United Nuclear is a great site, they've got a lot of neat stuff, but don't buy from them unless you can't find it elsewhere, their prices are notoriously high. Every single item on the entire site is at least double the price you'd pay elsewhere. Quality isn't necessarily better either, they do in fact sell a lot of cheap chinese goods.

Example: KNO3:
United nuclear price = $26 per pound. Potassium Nitrate : United Nuclear , Scientific Equipment & Supplies
Ebay price = $1.33 a pound. Potassium Nitrate 99% pure powder 7.5 lb bags - eBay (item 170504745355 end time Jul-24-10 09:23:05 PDT)

40W Tube:
United Nuclear = $425
Ebay = $150

60W Tube:
United Nuclear = $680
Ebay = $300

I don't know for United Nuclear but, for example, Plants and kit unlimited has tubes from Germany that are better than Chinese ones

I think it's safe to say these guys are not laser experts since she's holding the tube backwards :(

Not a bad price though for a chinese tube.
