Re: 1.2w Wicked Lasers EVO E2 M140 Pen

Nice work!
When that focus ring is anodized it will look even better. It looks like that driver worked out perfect.
I like to use the G-1 lens for pens to get the most power out of it (without extra current and therefore more heat). It also focuses closer to the diode so the lens doesn't stick out as much as the 3-element glass.

As an alternative, if you want to get rid of the gap, you can trim a little more off the back of the module, then press it in a little deeper with the lens set to focus at infinity. This makes it so that when the laser beam is parallel, the focus ring is flush and there is no gap. I use this trick for my chrome pens all the time.

Keep it up!

I just got took a measurement with a g2 and got 1460mw . But I do like the clean dot of the 3element too much to switch it for good. 1250mw wil just have to do ;) . Can't thank everyone enough for all your help with everything. Now that my first one is just about complete, I feel very confident to start building whatever I need........to an extent :D

Get the knob threaded deeper and thread lock the lens in the spot where it's focused at infinity when the knob pressed against the front.

I tried to do that with the current focus adaptor by sliding the module down a bit, but because everything is so tight there is a less then 1mm gap when at infinity. With the new focus adaptor I'm sure I can get it to work

Good job T. Yeah, it's weird having that kind of power in a stealthy little unit and there isn't a lot of us who have them. This kind of power deserves to be focusable. Actually I think it's kind of clear that for me personally I kind of go off the principle that if it could light a match it should be focusable if possible. My gold plated one sits in a nice box inside a regular case. I did not build mine, it was purchased from a member (you can see it in my sig).
Are you running off of (2) 10440's? I have a very short duty cycle (about 30 seconds) as it looks like your host is a lot thicker than mine. Doesn't matter to me as I don't really use my more powerful units.
Personally I would like it all black as it keeps the stealth theme going although you could always do both. Big thing is to do what YOU want. There's something elegant about a build like this that doesn't need any kind of embellishment like your "Zaser". Less can sometimes be more.
You can see why I like the very clean looking pens that companies sell like laserbtb although like you mentioned, most don't seem to offer them as focusable which is a bit disappointing.
Can't REP you again yet.

Re: 1.2w Wicked Lasers EVO E2 M140 Pen

Yup it's running the two 10440's. I actually contacted mrcrouse to machine a black focus adapter that looks completely stock. It will follow the same groove pattern as the host has now. The groove at the bottom of the adapter will hide the tiny gap when focusing. This should make it look like there is no adapter at all, and I will just turn the tip of the host to achieve focus. I've already sent him drawings of what I want and it should be finished within the week. I will be posting pictures of it of course :D

The black sleek look just can't be compromised with a silver adaptor so this new one will really keep with the theme of it all. And RA PIERCE has just sold his similar build, and he was getting a 2minute duty cycle at just about the same power. The heat transfer of this host really impressed me. I expected it to be roasting hot after a minute, but that's not the case. At one minute it's only slightly warm and at two min is where the heat just so that you can feel slight warmth at the button, so you release it. Just to keep her lasing I will be sticking to around a minute.

Looks good, I love the idea of a matching focus adaptor.

Might throw the module in a little flashlight I have, If not I'll let you know. It's putting out around 50mw.

+rep when system allows-- I generally don't mess much with the focus but any laser with power can sting the fingertips so a EZ focus is a good idea-
also
much better to use a longer rest and shorter duty cycle than needed- these are robust diodes but still...congrats--Len

you should consider a nice size heat sink for that green and use it in your Lumia build- 50 mW is plenty green and will allow your other colors to be seen. A smal fan in your lumia could be a good idea too.

Cant wait for that! I put a 150mw green module in my E2 temporarily, it was pretty easy :D
