Will do bloom, i know this is more than a small undertaking considering the dangers, and money, and the time,
and the emotional investment (i suppose this one depends on your level of obsession), lets not forget the money, and the whatever else comes to mind.

Now that the auction has ended, i had the seller test the tubes with a power supply (after stripping leads), they are FULLY FUNCTIONAL & lasing well. i asked if she noticed any anomalies and she said they looked to be slightly different in color (in addition to other things) but it was so faint she was probably wrong... seems like an investigation will be necessary. I am excited that i scored two working tubes for less than 10 bucks though for sure.

Cool stuff. Hope you get it worked out. If you need help let us know. I have some spare Alden cables sitting around and other stuff if you'd like me to re fashion the tubes.

nah that's the part i enjoy, plus i worry about damage in shipping. although, i REALLY need 2 alden cables... i don't feel like ghetto-wiring with 2kV

EDIT: I have found a power supply: MELLES GRIOT 05-LPM-830-065 Laser Power Supply 12VDC However, Dr. Sam has offered me a different one for $60...

Eh I don't find it that bad frankly. I've seen high gauge go as high as 25 bucks... I built a whole hene bare and new under a hundred bucks from his stuff.

Sorry to bump this post, but is there such thing as a Full-Spectrum High reflector and OC? Think of this as a new thread...

so i found a >99% HR @400-700nm but the 98% OC seems to be the hard part...

EDIT: Will a silver coated OC work? i am worried about the 96.5% reflection @ 400-700nm. is this enough for lines to lase?

EDIT: Never mind, after reading the Sam's FAQ's i decided that silver coated mirror's performance is poor. you need something closer to a 98.5-99% OC for the special, non-632.8nm lines and a 99.95 or so HR

Yeah high reflectors are not bad but an oc that covers all visible light I would think would be quite rare. It's generally the mirror coatings that help gain a particular wavelength while removing the others. Or in a tunable gas, a special prism

My conclusion on this topic is: if i REALLY needed these optics and was willing to drop a stack of cash AND i knew my tubes worked AND i knew they were multiline, i would call REO. I think they could fix me up really good with >99.999% broadband HR's and 99% broadband OC's. the only problems are: i don't want to drop a stack of cash on tiny little mirrors, i don't know if my tubes lase, and I doubt they are ML. *Sigh*

very true. honestly multilines are rare in the HeNe group. I kinda want one that sam has, but i cant afford it right now with the GB going on

Bumping this thread!
My HeNe's arrived today! They appear to be completely intact so i am going to purchase the laser two parts that i need: a male alden connector and the PSU.

Here are some pictures:
