I got the laser and I will hook it up tomorrow. I have a huge chiller that cools of a plastic pipe extruder and it is HUGE and has a LOT of water flow I forget the GPM but it is more than enough for the laser. It is wired for 480. I have no clue what the power should be on it but I am thinking 8 watts? not sure. But it was recently removed from service working and sat for 6 months . So we'll see. I am not too to hopeful for a quick and easy tube start, but a blind pig does find an acorn once and a while.. So I'll find out tomorrow. There was some water in the abilical and I blew out as much as I could and no more water came out It is in the car and will get down to 29 tonight. DO you think I am safe? thanks Tom

As long as it can dissipate up to around 10kW of heat and has enough flow your chiller should be fine. Usually just run them open, i.e. hot water down the drain, if there's no chiller available. One nice thing about that is that it doesn't rely on power to pump or cool water. Be wary of water leaks, if these are anything like the 165/7/8 with the 265 exciter then the exciter is also water cooled and could spring leaks inside (as could the head) - as you'll be aware, water and electricity don't go all that great together.
Do you know the exact model? The 2000 series came in a few sizes IIRC. Can figure out the expected power on a good tube from that. Doesn't mean yours will make that, don't know how old the tube is, what the gas pressure is like, if the mirrors are still aligned well and all the optics are clean.
Sitting for 6 months shouldn't be a problem.
Keep us posted on your progress. Don't continue if you get stuck somewhere or are unsure... ask for help, there's people here that know these systems well. Even more so on Photonlexicon.

It is a model 2020. the power supply is water cooled. much heavier and bigger than the 265 exciter I can't lift the unit myself the head is really heavy too. It was working so I think well hope it will I am assuming it's 480 but I have to triple check I have 208 as well The chiller is HUGE 6 feet tall and 4 feet in diameter it cools a huge extruder up to 4 inch pipe I may just hook it up to water and let it drain. I have 1 1/4 water lines at street pressure I can throttle it down but I have a LOT of water and power thank goodness I will try to join that other group too you all seem to know a lot so thank you very much Tom

2020 eh? Not sure what the power out is supposed to be on those - will depend on what optics are installed and what gas fill it has. Mixedgas would be able to tell you from a complete model number, likely printed on the head somewhere. I'd think maybe 5W with multi-line optics if everything is reasonable condition, maybe more.
I am thinking 5 watts It was made in 1984 It was working when removed so I don't know if the tube is about to die or had been rebuilt replaced? I don't know I can't imagine an Ion laser lasing 30 plus years as is. I was hoping it was newer than that . but if it works and has some life in it. that would be great. I am losing a little hope as Steve was telling another poster on here that that laser is problematic and it's 30 plus years old but the price is right so Ican't complain.
