They aren't HeNe's, but these are my favorite three plasma tubes:

This is probably my favorite of the three tubes:

Unfortunately, I haven't got my hands on any of the big / rare HeNe tubes. This is probably the most interesting HeNe I have... it's a spectra physics 132:

I have a 14" from dave.

Warning, lots of pics.

Yes,yes, it' a messy room.

I was playing with the white balance so some have a funny color.

I have since cleaned the tube and gave it a nice mount.

Well I think brando just took the record for most pics in one post:na: lol

Here is a video of my 543nm bare tube GreeNe up and running! I had a thread about it in the media section, but figured i'd post the video here too:

Don't own a He-ne, but it's definitely on a list of things to buy, the bare tubes do look amazing.

Take the YouTube link, and take the numbers/letters after the 'v=' near the end of the link and place that between [yt.][./yt] without the periods.

I really like laser tubes. I miss technology that is on a macroscopic level. Here is a little HeNe experiment I did a while back. It's a small HeNe tube I have, powered by nothing more than a charge piece of PVC pipe - well, at least it produces brief pulses; but hay...what more could I have expected?...

Although it's not a HeNe, I just made my own big tube from scratch, and filled it with CO2, Nitrogen, and Helium. Here are the results:

I've made several other videos of the laser in action. You can go to "my videos" youtube channel and check these out:

Also, here is a flickr set which shows all the gritty details of construction ...

Not as cool as all the other HeNe, but I thought I would put up a few pics anyways. Got this off of ebay...I remember seeing these in catalogs way back....perhaps Edmunds Scientific. Starts up very nice off the batteries, next is to get my hands on some mini PSU's and have some more fun! Still do love these HeNe!!:yh:

That's cute! I like it.

If diode technology hadn't interrupted their progress, I bet HeNe's would have progressively gotten smaller with time.

I'd just like to say a huge thanks to 532 with Envy for agreeing to trade his Hitachi HeNe pointer for a couple of other HeNe lasers I had. I used to have one of these pointers years ago but took it apart and wrecked it when I was much younger and stupid. Ever since then, I've been searching for another and 532 with Envy came to the rescue. A really nice addition to my laser museum and a great 'show and tell' item in my Physics class.
Thanks heaps Carl!!! You're a great guy to deal with!

Alright so I thought I would post these pics to this thread.....
These are pics of a "housing" that I put together for my mini HeNe and PSU. It's a bit ghetto, but made from plexiglass and Carbon fiber tubes. Even I am not sure of the design....but here it is!
Enjoy!

Re: Amazing HeNe tubes. Share your photos....

That is one HUGE photo and one HUGE tube!

Do people often commend you on the size of your cavity? :)

Sweet pics. I remember that not long ago, Dave had one or two of the tubes featured in picture 3 for sale. I absolutely adore the looks of these tubes, they have this cool "steampunk" style that just begs for a housing made out of wood and brass!!!

The tube in the last picture looks particularly badass, what is it?
