Always at a time when I have no spare money :(

Been wanting one of these interfaces for a long while now :p Suppose getting a PSU should be my top priority though. Great deal anyway! :D

You can make your own for about $10 in parts, or a few minutes digging though the junk box. Why not get the whole psu, the 2114 power supply can be changed to 110V use with a screw driver and 10 minutes of time :eek:)

ON a sadder note, Argon lasers may be going the way of the dodo, unless you need watts of beamage, with DPSS they cannot compete!

I got a 100mw blue beam dpss system for about $400 delivered to my door!

It is actual blue mw, has the blue IR stop filter installed, but put a BBIR reflector in just to be sure, makes over 102mw after the blue filter; about 93mw after the BBIR filter, yes the laser was made in China, apopears to be a CNI make.

In a way, Argon being phased out isnt such a bad thing, imagine the ammount of argons that will go on the market cheap?

You mean there aren't currently any argons on the market cheap? You're forgetting they're over ten thousand dollars new.

I've always been a proponent of making your own controllers. It's even easier than building a laser pointer. It's just resistors, pots, and switches.

I'm looking at making an interface from scratch... the looks of it appears pretty simple.

Though, what kind of setup is typical for one?

Is an exposed pcb with the switches and pots ok?

Or Is it best to put it in some kind of enclosure?

Does anyone have any pictures of their DIY controllers?

The displays are not required, right?

An exposed circuit may pose a risk to the circuitry of the controller in the PSU. I would only recommend it for testing purposes. Omitting the displays is a good idea. The pot position gives you a good idea of the current anyway, and even if it doesn't, you can hook up a multimeter to the correct pins and write on the surface what pot position corresponds to which current. Here's my test rig and final controller I made in '07:

There's one I made, I had the 25 pin connector all soldered up and kept in the enclosure, the other end was then plugged into the PSU. So the controller was always attached to the cable.

There's 3 6mm pin holes which fit my DMM pins perfectly, one red port for mW output and one for current output + pot to control the current.

I left room to put in a 3.5" screen which I need to buy from e-bay for current readout.

I used a radioshack project box, various components laying around, and a chopped up parallel printer cable to make mine.
