totally. im also going to have it as part of the rest of my rainbow, so look forward to 900mW of 405nm, 1-2W of 445nm, 20mW of 488nm (might be overwhelmed), 100mW of 532nm, and 900mW of 635nm, all together, all beam enhanced.

Hopefully your camera sees 488 better than my phone does. 473nm and 488nm look exactly the same to that camera. :(


Here's a link to an album of pictures with my argon and 0.5W 532 labby, surprisingly the 488 isn't over powered *too* badly. Probably doing around 20-25mW of 488 there.

No interlock key ... huh, sure.

Yes - as far as I remember not all of the pins are used on the round connector - so no need to put pins in all of the slots. Make sure it's in all the way - it'll pop in a few mm then you'll need to twist the ring on the connector to get it to lock in properly. I believe the head interlock is on that connector, so you won't get a green interlock lamp if it's not in.

Make sure you have the HI-LO 220-110 switches adjusted accordingly .

The DB25 connector is for control - pinout is on Sam's FAQ - if I remember correctly you should be able to get it running at idle with just two or three jumper wires between the correct pins. There is another interlock on the controller connector. I'd hook a multimeter up to the current sense pins too (Again, info on the FAQ for the calibration on that), just so you know it's not running at 10A when you think it's running at idle (Usually around 4A for these). If you have a 10k linear potentiometer lying around you should be able to get current control.

Ideally you'd get a blank DB25 male connector and solder your wires/pot/switches onto that and make a proper controller - but you can do without.

Make sure you have plenty of airflow through the head - you need a good 200cfm or so (Think the exact number is on the FAQ) - at 8A tube current this thing will be dumping about 800W of heat. Try not to go up to 10A if you can avoid it - the tubes will do 10A, but they are designed for 8A. Some of the PSUs will actually go up to 11 or 12A.

is that key thing just for safety, and they didn't include one?

Anyways, this isn't going to be a plug-and-play thing like I thought it would be huh?

Ok, so if I plug it into a wall outlet with a standard PSU cord from xboxes or computers (which seem to fit, surprisingly) it's not going to do anything weird on me if I don't put anything into the DB25 connector?

Yep, it's just for safety really - not sure why there isn't a key switch, but whatever - you don't need it. :D

You need to flip that switch to "HI". Mains voltage is 120V in the US.

The filament will run without the db25 connector, but the tube will remain unlit.

Thanks for adding that Cyp! Man, I miss having 230V everywhere. Made consuming copious amounts of power at home much easier.

the second i can, ill test run this thing, and see if it works. there is a possibility that it does not function, however i find that unlikely.

I think I remember seeing this on eBay the other week, the "208 VOLTS" thing rings a bell.

Anyway, I can't believe I'm just now reading this. Yes, it's completely normal for the connector to be missing a few pins.

Also, I haven't actually looked in a while, but I believe you have to jump pins 1 and 3 to bypass the interlock and get it to lase at idle. (someone correct me if I'm wrong)

EDIT: Did you buy it tested? If not it could be overpressure or possibly misaligned (although I'd think the latter is much less likely).

weird, the pins on mine are backwards to yours... they're listed in the opposite order on the connector.

EDIT: nevermind, i was just being stupid.

The key switch is missing because that power supply is designed to be integrated into a machine As a component so they chose to omit it probably. If you need to DB-25 blank I have one. Also have the control panel pin out somewhere. These aren't too hard to get running. You can also buy one for Meredith instruments if you're ambitious.

Do you have a blower to cool down the laser head yet? Glad to see the PSU will be up and running.
